ludwig Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 I picked up a Pfluger supreme XT earlier this year for 99.99 at BPS. Marked down from 129.99(I believe). Anyway it's discontinued now, but I still see them floating around from time to time. Let me tell you, this thing is RUGGED. I've brought in logs, 30lb+ chunks of slop - with bass still on it. Comes with a spare spool too, I'm probably going to grab another one from the local tackle shop. If you do find one, it will probably be around 80.00, for a reel that was originally 129.99 ... Whatever you choose, good luck on your purchase! Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted October 3, 2010 Super User Posted October 3, 2010 webertime, thanks for the comment on the bushing in the Sahara. I just bought one without checking the bearing count and location as compared to the Sedona which I have 4 of. I justchecked the parts list and exploded views for each. I only use spinning reels for finesse presentaions and was not concerned with bearing count, just the gear ratio. I'll get a bearing to replace that bushing. I use superline on all my spinning reels, but I set my drags closer to the mono line diameter rating rather than the superline strength rating. Never knew that about the Sahara. I've been very happy with that reel. Let me know what size bearing you get to replace it with, Wayne. I'll probably end up doing the same to mine. Quote
tracker01 Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 X5 on the President. Very nice reel. Go to the tackle shop and put one on a rod. If it feels like the ticket, take it home. Just remember that a reel will feel different on different rods. Quote
basscattrent Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 I like the pflueger supreme 8030 it only weighs 7.4 oz and will hold 6/160 which is perfect for me. I have used braid on it and that works great also. It is smooth and for the price I do not believe there is a better reel. That is just my opinion though. You can get them used off of the internet or new for under 100.00. I have gotten them for as cheap as 50.00. The same reel accept a small step the 9030xt is a great reel also. I own 6 or 7 of these reels and they are so light and smooth in your hands. When you hold a reel in your hand all day you will want the lightest, best priced reel go with the Pflueger. It is almost as light as the steez though I am sure the steez must be a nicer reel though. But if price is what is most important and it is for me also go with the pflueger supreme. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted October 17, 2010 Super User Posted October 17, 2010 SoFlaBassAddict, I just sent Shimano Corp. a message about a replacement bearing for the bushing and will post the replay when I get it. Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 For less than 100:Shimano Sahara Daiwa Exceler I would shy away from The Shimano Sahara as I have one and the bail sticks open when I forget to hand close it after a year of light use. Quote
