Ern Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Looking at putting a Symetre 2500 on a 6'3" 21 Carrot Gold. I want to use Power Pro on this rod too. Anyone got an opinion on these rods? Quote

Super User BASSclary Posted October 12, 2010 Super User Posted October 12, 2010 Nice rods, just not my style. Elaborate? For $200, I can name a lot of other rods cheaper that I would rather have. Don't get me wrong they're good rods, but I would rather say get a Powell, or a Dobyns, another Crucial, etc etc. Also, I think the orange is just fugly. Quote
Super User webertime Posted October 12, 2010 Super User Posted October 12, 2010 They're going for $100 @ cabelas now. I have a regular carrot spinning rod (6'9" mh) with a 2500/3000 Sahara. I have. Drop shotted, ika'd,fluked, jerk baited, and tossed spinnerbaits. I love the thing, Golds seem to have had fewer issues. I'd do it. I have one spool with 30lb Tufline xp braid and another with 8lb big game. No issues... Quote

Have you used any of those rods you just mentioned?? I don't get why you suggest people buy certain rods when you yourself have probably never fished with one. Ern sorry for that rant. At 100 bucks I would pick up a couple, they are a seal at that price IMO. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted October 13, 2010 Super User Posted October 13, 2010 I have three of the gold casting rods, 6'2''M, 6'10''MH, 7'10''M. All are great rods but I have had trouble out of the gold series. The 6'10 was the first one I bought, got it off of ebay for around $130. I fish cranks and jerkbait with it and over about a year and a half the tip started grooving with mono/copoly. It hasn't effected the performance but t should no have happened. I recently bought the other two on sale at current prices. I use the 7'10'' for cranks and the 6'2'' for small weight baits with a Daiwa Pixy. It seems that the guides are a bit different on the older and newer rods that are on closeout. The paint is also fragile and scratched easily. Quote

Yes, I own a Crucial, i've fished a buddies Powell, and I haven't fished a Dobyns but from what everyone says, the dobyns are just as good (if not better) than the powell and the crucial, so I put it in there too. Jeez Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted October 14, 2010 Super User Posted October 14, 2010 I have both the Powell Max and Dobyns Savvy, never fished a crucial. I have to say that the Golds are better balanced, more sensitive, and a helluva lot lighter than any of them. The actions are a little slower than stated and the finish sucks but for the current prices, they can't be touched by anything in that lower price range. You may get alot of hate on them but very few will have experience. I've had trouble with the finish and guides and I still bought two more. Also alot of talk about them breaking, I've put my 6'10"MH through alot the past few years and it's still going strong, it may not be the prettiest rod but it can take a beating. Quote
