catchnm Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Well around $80 actually....I think I've narrowed it down to three main choices. St.Croix Triumph, Shimano Clarus (or Convergence) or Team All Star IM10. Gonna go with 7' med or med/hvy. I've seen a lot of great deals on the different forums on other more expensive rods that are being sold used, (not to say I wouldn't go that route either) but these are my choices for NEW rods. Input and/or comparisons on any one or all three appreciated. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted October 11, 2010 Super User Posted October 11, 2010 IMO a Falcon Bucoo for about $100 is the way to go. Also, keep an eye out on the flea market here, some great deals pop up Quote
catchnm Posted October 11, 2010 Author Posted October 11, 2010 Guess I should have added that I'm pretty old school when it comes to the newest split grip rods. I just like the cork handles with a cork fore grip. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted October 11, 2010 Super User Posted October 11, 2010 Check out the Lamiglas Excel. Its cork, but it has a split grip and no foregrip. If you can get over that, its one hell of a rod. Quote
catchnm Posted October 11, 2010 Author Posted October 11, 2010 Yep been looking at them already.....pretty tempted. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted October 11, 2010 Super User Posted October 11, 2010 What reel are you going to mate it with if you dont mind me asking? Quote
WanderLust Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Check out the Lamiglas Excel. Its cork, but it has a split grip and no foregrip. If you can get over that, its one hell of a rod. Solid choice for sure. Vendetta also a possible in that range... Quote

catchnm Posted October 11, 2010 Author Posted October 11, 2010 I have 4 Citica 200E, 3 H20 Xpress Mettle (great reels BTW), 3 Daiwa Procaster 100HN, 2 Pflueger Trion NLP, 2 BPS Extreme 05 size, and 1 Curado CU200. I already have rods out the wazoo and all are matched with a rod now, but some are old, just looking to upgrade a bit. Got 3 Fenwick Techna AV rods, 3 All Star Classic, 3 Daiwa Team-V, 2 Gander Mountain 7' trout special, and a few other older BPS, Berkley, etc. Would like to have new rods that land somewhere in price and quality between the Techna AV and the All Star Classic/Daiwa Team-V. I've looked at the Eagle GT rods but am shying away from IM6 grade graphite. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted October 11, 2010 Super User Posted October 11, 2010 These are about 20.00 more than you asked about, but..great rods, great warranty! Shimano Compre about 99.99 http://www.***.com/Shimano_Compre_Casting_Rods_IM8_Graphite/descpage-SCCR.html Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted October 11, 2010 Super User Posted October 11, 2010 Clarus > Bucoo IMO. and to be honest id add the Falcon Original over both of those rods. Quote
catchnm Posted October 11, 2010 Author Posted October 11, 2010 I'm surprised that no one has recommended the Triumph. I know that there are several here who use them. How are the Falcon Originals as far as sensitivity? Aren't these what are called the "HD" Falcons? Quote
jdw174 Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Check out the Lamiglas Excel. Its cork, but it has a split grip and no foregrip. If you can get over that, its one hell of a rod. Currently on sale at *** for 78.88 and free shipping Quote
