Ideas on should i get a Johnny Morris Reel?

All i use right now are BPS extreme and Pro Qualifiers but ive been thinking of getting a Johnny Morris signature or an Carbon light reel. Do you guys think it is worth its money?

The standard price for the Sig is now $119 I believe....I could be wrong but it's a heck of a reel for near $100.

The JM reel is a bit "portly" at 9.4 ounces - a bit heavier than we're getting used to; otherwise, many report that it's a fine reel at a good price.

I have a CarbonLite, it's great - like a PQ but 2 ounces lighter; I have it mounted on a Loomis MBR842C - makes a great combo. The CL reel has been on sale before for $100 - a steal at that price...

A good rule of thumb when you are dealing with Bass Pro is to not buy any of their branded items unless they are on sale.  Thats not to say that some of them aren't worth their normal price...its just that BPS puts most of their gear on sale at great discounts at various times throughout the year.

yea i know iwas able to get a couple of extremes for 50 or 60 a piece which was pretty good not to long ago .

Pros - solid and smooth

Cons - on the heavy side and above average in size

Potential Con - mods (i.e. not sure if you can get better bearings or Smooth Drag washers for the JM line)

Those with bigger hands may prefer the larger size from a palming perspective, so not necessarily a con.

Agree with the above on waiting for sales strategy.

I would add a pro : you can upgrade drags with revo drag washers. You can always upgrade bearings if you feel the need, but they use good bearings, and with the JM Gold, the titanium finish would be a nice benefit.

Con, I have not seen the JM gold on sale yet, but it's already a good price.

Con, I was able to buy brand new 2010 Revo STX for $160 from an ebay dealer. Thats the only reason I didn't get the JM gold for myself.

I had one of the blue JM Elites. It was a big, heavy reel. It cast nicely but after a few months the bearings started to screech badly. Cleaning and lubing wouldn't help. I returned it to the store.

Carbonlite is well worth it, not so sure about the JM's ive never used one.

Same here, I've never used a JM but I really like my Carbonlite reel. I'm hoping they come out with a 7:1 gear ratio next year.

they are great reels i own a bunch of them never had a problem with any of them as for the weight put it on a rod and its still less than a pound.if thats to heavy take up knitting.

I dont see any need of a BPS reel above the Pro-Q. If spending more than that go with a abu or shimano. The pro-q's are great and I can't see any other BPS being better.

I have 3 JM sig series reels and would not trade them for any other reel. They are smooth as glass and never had any trouble. JMO

I've owned Revo's, Patriarchs and some JM reels including the sig model.

The JM reel is as smooth as either a Patriarch or an STX.

Solid, silky smooth and dependable.  Unfortunately, they are also significantly heavier and a larger profile. If weight isn't an issue and you have medium to larger hands, at $120 retail, it's a great reel for that kind of money.

The signature series are good reels for the money. My thoughts are this, due to the weight and not being the best 1/4oz- caster its better served as part of an arsenal with other reels. (some of the same things are said for the revered Diawa Zillion)

Its not a reel thats going to excel at tip up presentations, but its a GREAT reel for rattlebaits, topwaters,etc. THe dual cast control is user friendly and is very accurate in my hand.

that's a no brainer for the jm combo.the jm rod is far better.

The carbonlite has a smaller profile and is a lighter reel. That would suit those who prefer smaller. The JM is probably more higher-end, but it's bigger and a little heavier so the choice becomes user preference.

What is the carbonlite rod compared to sensitivity wise?? Is it like the Pro Qualifier or what??
