What Cumara for ShakyHead??

I know I want at least the 7'2" length but what power/action would be ideal for 1/16-1/8 shakyhead jig.

Please limit replys to Cumara owners only. Not being peculiar it's just that the Cumara series doesn't follow the normal logic of powers/actions. Thanks

7'2 Medium X Fast in either casting or spinning models. I much prefer a spinning setup for those weights, but that is just my preference.

Sorry didn't think to include that. Definitly spinning for shakyhead. BCing sucks for that imho.

I know it boils down to preference, but why would a BC rod suck for shakey head? I use a Cumara 7'2" med/fast BC, and it works out quite well.

Sorry but depending on the size of the hook and thickness of the bait I would say the XF is too whippy for a decent hookset. I use my XF for the drop-shot and rigs with an exposed hook I don't have to punch through plastic. If it were me I would go with a fast.

Tin, are you confusing XF with MF? The XF would be less "whippy" and load up quicker than the fast.

the best of the Cumaras for shakeyhead is the 7'2" M XF. Most shakey setups weigh enough that a baitcasting setup works fine, at least for me. And i find it much easier to stay in touch with the bottom using the baitcaster. In fact I leave it in free wheel and use my thumb to control the line until I get bit, then I engage, reel down, and set the hook! this method allows me to be sure I'm keeping it on the bottom, with the right amount of tension on the line, which is key when shakey fishing. without the proper line tension you can't impart the correct action to the worm, and being able to 'shake' the worm is why you use the shakey head technique.  of course...to each his own. it's just the way I do it.
