Spinning Set Up

I think I'm going to break down and invest in spinning outfit for my light weight wacky rigged finesse worm fishing. Currently i'm using a M power fast action 7' Kistler casting rod and while it cast with no problem I think I am losing out on a little distance and accuracy. I would like to be able to pitch to tight spots and under over hanging trees etc which I cannot do now with my casting set up do to the light weight of the lure.

I dont want to break the bank so here is what im thinking

6'9" ML power Vendetta x-fastaction

Abu Cardinal spinning reel or.....

Has anyone used the spinning reels by Falcon? I think it would look pretty sweet mounted on a Vendetta.

I have two vandetta spinning rods and while i LOVE the casting rods the spinning rods are CRAP in my opinion.  Couldn't really tell you which to go with but the abu garcia veritas look really sweet.  Thinking bout picking one or two up during the winter (once i get my hands on one of course  )

That reel would look even SICKER on a Falcon Bucoo, and the performance will show  8-)

Excellent set up for less than $200. If you can get your hands on these two, I would suggest checking them out before you make a decision.

The Falcon looks sweet and would look nice on a Vendetta, but you may be paying more for pretty than quality. Unless you're set on going with an Abu, you may want to check out the Clarus and Compre Shimano rods paired with a Sahara as previously mentioned by NM. That being said, if you're a big Abu fan you'll probably enjoy the Vendetta paired with a Cardinal or Falcon reel.

IMO going with a 6'6" M or MH rod would be ideal in your situation, as you seem to be targetting cover, and in tight, you will want a slightly shorter rod to allow precision casting, skipping, etc.

I absolutely recommend the Shimano Compre 6'6" MH Fast spinning rod -- it's great for skipping tubes, wacky senkos, and has enough backbone to pull fish from moderate cover.

I think ML or even some M action rods will be too light to get fish from the overhanging trees (which surely have grass or limbs in the water under them).

I have a 6'9" MH Carrot Stick with a Shimano Sahara 2500/3000 that I use for exactly what you are looking to do.  It's a sick set up, I've been using a lot so far for Fat Ikas and Sebile Magic Softs in a VERY weedy/heavy cover pond.  Grab one from *** for $86 and a Sahara and you'll have $$ left for some nice braid (Tufline XP 8/30 is a great braid for spinning gear).

I have actually been thinking about a carrot for my spinning rod. I have one crankin carrot stick now and I actually love it for cranking. I think they get alot of negative attention for some reason but so far I have nothing bad to say of mine. I will be throwing mostly 1/8 ounce weighted wacky hooks with finesse worms so I'm leaning towards M or ML with a fast action. Probally going with 8# InvisX Flouro as I will be mainly fishing sparse cover and edges of grass beds most of the time. I am worried about the visibility of braid for finesse fishing as most of my waters are pretty clear due to the abudance of filtering grass. I will also use this set up for shaky heads as well. I am thinking 6'6" for accuracy.

I have been very satisfied with my Carrot Stix LTX drop shot rod.  I don't usually go as light as 1/8, but I have had no sensitivity problems at 3/16.  I use it for drop shot almost exclusively, but I have been very pleased the few times I have had shakey heads on it.  The tip is pretty soft and I can shoot that thing pretty much wherever I want it.  As far as braid goes I just tie on a floro leader.... not one fish I have talked to has complained
