what are you using to remove the water spots?

I don't have one, but try vinegar.  It works on everything else.

Vinegar will blacken the reel, a little silver polish to remove the stains, waxing the reel will reduce the water stain issues a lot, however the ideal thing would be to have the reel clear coated.

One of the reasons I don 't fish much with my Alphas Itö is that, water stains, finger marks, scratches easily, the bare polished aluminum may look cool but definately not the best finish in the world .

Now that I have it I wish I had a time machine, go back to Daiwa headquarters and have a chat with the head designer, the converation could have been like this:

Head designer: Look, we 's gunna make this reel

Raul.- Kool !

Head Designer: we 's gunna have a clear lexan side plate and front end, a red accent here and a polished aluminum finish

Raul.- Man, it gonna look kool however ( and Raul violently slaps head designer 's scalp ) that polished aluminum finish ain 't gonna work you moron. Clear coat the danged thing and save us guys all the friggin ' staining trubble ! >

I use a light polishing compound with a Dremel set on low speed for mine. It will take some time so pick a day during the winter when you have nothing else to do but watch the snow fly.

The one on the right is a stock reel, never been used. The one on the left is the polished one I have used for three years now.

Jimzee I've always thought these reels were sweet looking. Your treatment takes them to a whole new level. Beautiful work. I want one!

It probably would not have cost much more to polish the externals of the reel to a mirror finish during manufacturing. Raul when you get that time machine working, you can smack the designer and suggest a real polished finish. The idea wasn't bad, just not finished.

That's not stubborn.  I think your right, clear coating would be the cherry on top. I want one! 8-)
