Here in the next few days I am going to pick up a new rod and reel. I am going to get a baitcasting setup, and this will be my first as I only use spinniners. My question is is what I have listed going to be a good begginer and down the road baitcast set up. Keep in my that I mostly throw soft plastics and a few jigs.

* Abu Garcia Veritas 7' MH/F (Yes I do know the rod came out today)

* BPS CarbonLite Baitcast Reel

Also what line should I use for this setup?

I say keep the Carbonlite reel, but drop the Veritas for a better rod IMO.

Also I like to use straight braid for jigs, and braid with a Fluoro leader for t-rigs

I think you would be fine with any line. All tend to have there little set backs. But I think with mono you tend to get more backlashes which is the thing I hate most. Personally I would recommend fluoro. Mainly because if you fish your soft plastics weightless like I do mostly it will give them a nice steady fall (IMO). As for the set-up you may want to give a ball park price of what you looking to spend you will get a lot of other possible to consider. Which will probably make your choice way more difficult. SORRY. Goodluck.

both rod and reel should be ok. personaly i would start out with mono, its cheaper to cut off the reel and throw away.

Ok well since the Veritas would not be the ideal rod I have had another in the back of my mind just a little more pricey. It is the Shimano Crucial. My only questions with this rod is what length, action, and power should I get considering what I fish with. Also to note is that 99% of the time I am Texas rigging my soft baits.

As for the reel I was also looking at the Curado 200E7 compared to the Carbonlite. Which one would be the preferred reel.

If money is not a problem, get the Curado. And the Crucial is a good stick if your going to mostly use texas rigs I say get a M/F or M/XF. Rod length is your choice  8-)

I think you'd be much better off purchasing a Shimano Citica E or Revo S for $90ish on Ebay new. Then spending a tad more on the rod if you're able to. There's quite a big leap in a $100 vs $150 rod, and well worth the extra money. Plus, better warranties.

  I'd highly suggest taking a look at a Dobyns Rods 704 or 734 Savvy Series rod. There are also a handful of other options in that $150 range.

That's a good choice. Get a M or MH with xtra fast tip for soft plastics.

IMO, for a first setup, I would get a good rod like the Crucial, Avid, etc.. with an extra fast tip and go with a quality brand used reel (Revo, curado, PQ, Quantum PT, etc..).  You can pick up a good used reel for 40-60bux on ebay which will clean up and work like new.

You can always upgrade the reel later if you want a prettier one  8-) .And if you wish to upgrade the rod, you will have no problem selling it ( to me...  ;) )
