HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 I was just wondering if this is just marketing 101 or actually time tested? Residing in the north and things locked up tight haven't had a chance to test them for myself. Quote
fishnaddiction Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 lures work different for people and i have some of the coffee tubes but didnt get the chance to use them yet the only way you are going to find out how they really work is to go buy them and try them for yourself Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 11, 2008 Super User Posted February 11, 2008 I have a few packs but have not used them yet. The local tackle shop I go to here in Indiana sold out of them they day after. The owner went to lake Shelbyville in Illinios and killed on this bait. He said it was some of the best fishing he had done in years. Quote
smallieking Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 wow really? thats awesome my local GM has them in stocked with a bunch of colors im going to wait to buy them til may when i usally use tubes. i was wondering if any certain colors stand out better than others? i was leaning towards a craw color but a crawfish really doesnt smell like coffee so im not sure which colors to buy at first. Sorry, I should noted that he said this after he had sold out of his on store stock. Personally, I some of the old Bleeding Tubes and other than the coffee sent I can hardly tell the differance in a few colors. I still need to fish them first before I say how good they are. In the tackle shop owners case, I think he really did have a good but he could have had a good day on just about any other bait. Quote
Shadcranker Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 I hate to be skeptical, but this smells like gimmick to me. I've never used them, so I may be wrong, but my theory on scent and taste is that they might make the fish hold on to the bait longer, but I seriously doubt that any scent really makes them bite. Just my theory. That said, I do use BANG Real Craw on my craw imitating plastics to mask any unatural human odors and hope that it makes them hold on a second longer. I would think that if coffee was such a strong attractant, bait companies would have scientific research to suppot it, and more companies than SK would have them out by now. I can't imagine that they could get an exclusive patent or trademark on coffee scent for soft plastics. Just my opinion, but hey, if it makes you more confident in what you're doing, go for it. Confidence is a key deal in fishing for sure. Also, coffee sure smells better than Power Bait or Gulp, so I wouldn't mind having it in my boat. Quote

Super User FishTank Posted February 11, 2008 Super User Posted February 11, 2008 I don't see why you couldn't just take some old coffee grounds through them in a bag of ordinary tubes (Berkley, Zoom, etc.). After a few days I'm pretty sure they'll smell and taste like coffee. Quote

ctbassmaster2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Im deffinitly skeptical of the whole coffee scent myself.... but after killin it last year with there bleeding tubes im going to give them a shot this year . plus i like the fact that there available in 4.5 inch Quote
WhiteMike1018 Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Gimmick. Come on guys? Coffee? Its an angler attractant not fish, they want your money. All of us have caught fish with tubes laced with megastrike or any other scent, why buy something that hasn't stood the test of time. You should never question weather or not a bait will work when throwing it, go with what you know works. Quote

You should never question weather or not a bait will work when throwing it, go with what you know works. I throw a ton of coffee baits. After the success I had with them late last year, I will continue to throw them. I am not saying they work any better than something like Mega Strike, but they do work. As a matter of fact my new confidence bait is a straight coffee(no colorant) 4.5" lizard for smallmouth. It all comes down to confidence, and I have a ton of it in the coffee baits. Just my 2 cents.
