I didn't know that G.Loomis/Shimano was suing North Fork Composites, Gary's new company.

Does anyone know why?

15:1114 Trademark Infringement

We find it flattering that a corporation as large as Shimano is so concerned about our little operation

Man, I stumped, don 't know if this guy is kidding or he just speaks whatever comes out of his mind first without actually thinking it too much, it 's not about the size of your operation what counts it 's the principle what counts and what 's into play.

I suppose they are going to seek out damages for Gary using his own name.  Shimano management has flipped their lids.

If "Gary Loomis" or "G. Loomis" is a trademark, then I think Shimano may have some justification in their lawsuit. The tricky thing about trademarks is that once one person can get away with using it freely, it could potentially turn into a landslide.

The non compete agreement expired so I don't know why shimano has their panties in a wad.  They are stupid if they didn't think Gary would eventually start making rods again.  If shimano wanted to keep him out of the rod business their lawyers should have had him sign a longer contract.

It had absolutely nothing to do with non-competes. The lawsuit was for trademark infringement. The suit has now been dropped because names and images are to be changed so that they no longer infringe on the trademark.

G. Loomis HAS to defend it's trademark from infringement. Otherwise their trademark quickly becomes worthless.
