Brian_Reeves Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 From what I can tell, these lures are basically lucky crafts. Their jerkbaits look like and perform like pointers, their shallow cranks rock, and their deep divers are top knotch. And the price??? Less than 5 bucks. I think this is the new bait, rod, and reel name that Academy is going to be using as their 'tournament choice' or whatever. The crankbaits are amazing and the 10 ball bearing reel is only 50 bucks. I'm completely impressed with the performance of the lures as well as the reel. Down with BPS and Cabelas...I'm buying my cranks and reels from Academy!!! Quote

Super User 5bass Posted February 4, 2008 Super User Posted February 4, 2008 I just got some in the mail today and they look like LC clones. The paint jobs are slick and they come with VMC trebles and oval split rings. I really hope they perform good 'cause I got a whole load of 'em on the way. We'll see, I'm going to throw them a little bit this coming weekend. Sure wish I had an Academy nearby. Quote

Avalonjohn44 Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 five.bass.limit - can you order them online? I looked for a place but could not find any. Quote
Terry_ Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 five.bass.limit - can you order them online? I looked for a place but could not find any. X2... I can find the site, but I ain't seeing no crank baits. :-/ Quote
Super User 5bass Posted February 5, 2008 Super User Posted February 5, 2008 Last time I looked at the Academy site, they just had pics of a few of them and no color descriptions. You really couldn't tell much. You may be able to buy them at Academy online but you'd basically be buying them blind....and hoping to get decent colors. I have a couple of online friends that have helped me out with them. You know who you are ......and thanks again! I'll try to get some pics up here shortly of a few that I have in hand. Stay tuned. doublem5148 Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Academy does not offer online sales! > everything goes through the stores, but the reels are pretty sweet. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted February 5, 2008 Super User Posted February 5, 2008 wow those look very nice. got any online links for em? i'd like to get some of their pointer rip offs. Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 5, 2008 Super User Posted February 5, 2008 As almost everyone here knows I work for Academy so here's the 411, Academy has no on-line sales, I can not even find out who makes these lures or the old Anglers Choice lures. The reels are made in Korea if I remember right but Academy will not say who makes them. What's funny about the reels is the 10 bearing model is the cheapest priced model go figure. During our store meeting the store manager stated that Academy plans to build 12-14 new stores a year and has plans to move into the Great lakes area. Last year Academy out sold Bass Pro Shops in total sales (excluding boat sales). Academy is the fastest growing Sports & Outdoor stores in America with plans of expanding nation wide. Quote
dumb_dog11 Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 i really like the lousiana shad color and the american shad color Quote
Super User 5bass Posted February 5, 2008 Super User Posted February 5, 2008 The little S models dont really look that much like any LC's, maybe the CB200's a little bit. The other models are the ones that look like the LC Rick Clunn's and the CBD20's. (The 20 clones are in the first picture I posted, not this last batch) Quote
Super User Dan: Posted February 5, 2008 Super User Posted February 5, 2008 5BL, thanks a ton, I've been trying to see these lures for a while but have only found a few pics. They look pretty good. Quote
ABC123 Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Hmmm, maybe a little Bass fishing vacation to TX is in order. Quote
SPAZ Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 I don't know how the internals of the baits are but they d**n sure look great. Quote
Fishing Doug Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Do they make a lipless crank? If so, how do they look? FD Quote
