rat-l-trapper Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Today my reel's worm gear kept getting stuck on the left side. I cleaned the area thinking it was clogged with weeds. the worm gear still got stuck, although it stopped happening as often. The worm gear only gets stuck every once in a while now, but I'm afraid there may be something wrong with it. The reel is only a few months old. I'm not sure if I should send the reel back, it is under warranty but I may be able to fix it myself. Also, I'm not sure how to get the sideplate off to adjust the centrifugal brakes. The reel casts just fine so I haven't bothered with it, but I would like to know. If anyone could help me I would apreciate it, otherwise I'll probably just contact Abu garcia about it. Quote
Super User Micro Posted August 27, 2010 Super User Posted August 27, 2010 There's a knurled screw-head on the top of the crank-side sideplate. Turn it counter-clockwise until it's loose. It won't come all the way out, but pull it out until it stops. (Just a fraction of an inch.) When it's loose, turn the opposite sideplate clockwise about 1/8 turn. It may be a bit tight. Once it turns, lift it straight off. You will see the brake on the end of the spool underneath. To adjust the brakes, hold the reel firmly in both hands, and used BOTH of your thumbnails to push (pop) the little brake shoes UP to the turn on a brake, or DOWN to turn it off. Using both thumbnails give you better control. The brake shoes (6 of them) are on little posts. There is a itty-bitty tab on the post. Pop the shoe down towards the axle until it pops past that tab to turn it off. Pop it up past that tab (so its loose on the pst) to turn it on. I have found the reel works well with 2 brakes ON and 4 OFF. The two that are on should be precisely opposite of each other. Here is a series of photos for a rebuild of a Revo Inshore, which is very much like the Revo S. http://www.bloodydecks.com/forums/fishing-reels/91795-ambassaduer-revo-inshore-rebuild.html Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 If you have reason to believe the reel has a defective part use the warranty to have it replaced. If you think it is just fouled have it professionally cleaned and re-lubed. ABU reels respond especially well to a thorough cleaning, even out of the box. Quote

I'm not sure if it is a defective part or not. the worm gear always gets stuck in the same place each time. It then gets hard to reel, and when I reel through it it makes a click, jumps back to the left and stops getting stuck. It's still fishable, but I don't want to use it anymore until I know what's wrong with it, so it doesn't get worse. If anyone knows what the problem could possibly be I'd like to hear from you. I e-mailed Abu Garcia and they said to send it in, but I don't know if the warranty will cover it. If it doesn't I would rather take it to a local place. Quote
Dockhead Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 If it is only a few months old and you have proof of purchase, send it back. I believe they will probably just send you a new reel. Quote
