What if in a year or two Daiwa offers free Wiley X-II glasses with their latest and greatest? ;D When it comes to quality reels, I pretty much like whatever I've got in my hands... 8-) Quote
WanaBe_Like_IKE Posted August 20, 2010 Author Posted August 20, 2010 I have noticed that when im fishing I dont really notice my reel its more about the rod. Im gonna get one of these reels or a Caenan or BPS CL or PQ and just get more of those Quote
lightsout Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Maybe in a real world of only bass fishing! Aluminum sideplates have alot to do with the smoothness and longevity of a reel. All to do with alignment of the internals. Thats why they have to supplement it by putting in those cross pins across the center of the frame. More often than not, the graphite sideplated low pro reels are cheap to begin with. Sloppy tolerances, and poor build quality overall are blamed on the graphite. There was a guy on here not long ago blaming the poor performance of his BPS tourney reel on the graphite side plates ;D Funny micro mentioned that, I inherited a Daiwa Procaster (forget the model) from my grandfather that was the reel he used for 20+ years. And to this day it works great...Again its the design, not the matierial. Quote

But if you really want to save some money and just get more PQ's or CL's , I recommmend the CL's. They're just a lighter more comfortable reel than the PQ (I say comfort for the EVA knobs!) 8-) Quote
Hot n Tot Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I've had both Revo STX and Shimano Chronarch. Both were disappointments and were returned for Zillions. Personally, I went to look at reels to get one to use only with braid and frogs. I thought this would be a good application for a Curado E7, because they are inexpensive. But, just looking at the Curado from a cosmetic perspective, just looks like an inferior reel, so I couldn't pull the trigger and ended up with another Zillion. Over $100 bucks more, but sometimes you get what you pay for. Quote

I don't know if I have ever used a higher end offering from any of the major brands that I hated. This is a COMPETETIVE industry. I can think of five brands that would or have already served me well. I go back to what I have said over and over again. I want value in what I buy. Avoid the term "best." I recall Burly saying that some time back. Quote
Nibbles Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 I am planning on buying both a Revo and a Curado, im just trying to figure out which one to buy (when I say buy I mean ask my dad and him pay for it for my B-Day lol) first. The Curado is better for light baits and I have heard nothing but good on this thread, what are the Cons? Skip Abu Garcia and Shimano and go straight to Quantum Naw, I might go buy a Kinetic or Accurist if I want something cheap, this post was not a comparison thread I was just wondering why nobody talked about these brands. Ok I have seen ALOT of talk about daiwa and I have seen that I like the way Feugos look, how much are these reels and what Daiwa reel is comparable to a Revo or Curado? I got a Fuego from some dude for a steal. It beats my Revo STX hands down. Brand new they run around $210. Quote
Nottoway Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 OK, Ill end this!!! Revo SX are the way to go. Very fast reel, more then some people can handle. I own 6 of them, and use them to throw 1/16 shakyheads all the way to flipping mat with 1 1/2 oz. GreenTop here in Virginia, has last year model $129. You buy this reel and send it to Bassman13reelservice.com and have them Super Tuned, $17, You got a reel that will out preform , whatever else you can buy!!! Quote

As some one who owns a Fuego, Curados, and most of the Revo's.................the Fuego is for sale, the others are not. And to the original ?, I would take the 2010 DBS Revo STX's and Premiers over ther Curado, but the Curado over the SX, or the S Quote
BlaineFred Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 no one has compared the drags of the two reels... Quote
Super User Micro Posted August 22, 2010 Super User Posted August 22, 2010 Has the drag on any of the reels mentioned ever been insufficient? Quote
Super User Dan: Posted August 22, 2010 Super User Posted August 22, 2010 Has the drag on any of the reels mentioned ever been insufficient? NOPE! Unless you are asking Abu Garcia, then the obvious answer is that anything less than 20lbs in iunsufficient. Quote

I find they both work great..Upgraded the drag in both. I use the chronarch for flippin, pitchin, and smaller swimbaits. The 301 see's duty 9n my heavy swimbait rig, and some saltwater duty. I'm not trying to compare them to anything, just sayin they are imho good reels.. 8-) Quote

I returned the Chronarch and bought another Zillion. Nvery subjective I know, but I thought the Zillion casted better and was noticeably smoother. Quote
0119 Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 A reel in the price range of the Chronarch shouldnt need a drag upgrade. Heck no reel worth buying should need a drag upgrade out of the box. Frankly no reel we are talking about should be made to be JUST sufficient enough for ONLY bass fishing either. I cant imagine a 300DSHV or 300E needing more or better drag. But every other Curado Ive had, has had the dartanium disks break apart while in the reel after some water intrusion after a heavy rain storm. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted August 24, 2010 Super User Posted August 24, 2010 BYW, I took my Chonarch to get it cleaned and lubed, they replaced the drag washers with carbontex under warranty. 8-) Quote
0119 Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 If you got your drag washers replaced under warranty they werent carbontex. Shimano would replace them with their propritory dartanium washer. Carbontex is an aftermarket product of the Smooth Drag Company. Quote
northern basser Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 been using a e7 all summer and got a revo sx last week. I've used the sx a lot in the last week. 1st off, I like both those reels. Definitely 2 different reels however. Personally I liked the revo's retrieve and drag a little better. As far as casting goes, the curado wins hands down. This might be because I'm more used to the shimano braking system. The more I used the revo the better at casting it I got. I'd probably give the nod to the curado because its smaller, lighter and casts better. It's a close contest though. Very close. I was wishing that I would have bought the premier instead of the sx. When I went back to cabelas a lifelong friend that works there told me to look at the new pflueger patriarch xt. I bought it and love it. I need to use it a little more to be completely convinced though. i think pflueger scored on this reel. Quote

Hitch Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 I have used Shimano's all my life.I have had about 6 or so revos from s to stx and sold them all.To me as others have stated the reel throughs the line and brings it back. All the money should go to the rod and line.IMO.I have friends that fish in some major tourney's and throw nothing but a h20 express from Academy that is $50.00. and can out cast or pitch anyone. So I will tell you that no one can tell you what you will like until you go and hold or fish them both side by side.
