Revo better than the Curado?

I have the revo inshore and curado e5, both are good reels, but I like the curado e5 better just because less maintenance is needed. Just rinse after use and it still good for the next outing. The Revo Ins, needs spool bearing cleaning and oiling after 2 outings to maintain a good casting distance.

Also a personal preference thing.  Many here pay top dollar for as light a reel as possible.  Others prefer the heft of a Zillion as it adds to the "overbuilt" feel/nature of the reel.

I think the Revo STX and Curado E are comparable reels, both in quality and durability, retail and used price, and value. These are the two reels I've settled on and I own quite a few of each.

I prefer the feel of the Curado over the Revo by just a hair, and the Curado is easier to do a complete breakdown for cleaning, so it gets the edge in my book.

Either one would be a good choice, IMO.  It's hard to pass up either reel for $140 or less, especially those 2009 STXs that went on closeout last year for $100 and are now in the used markets for $120-130 shipped.

of course Revo's are better than shimano's . as far as what Micro said , i have to tell you that in my experience with Abu garcia/pure fishing has been fantastic , the people really help you and are actually enthused to help you and make sure everything is right . and as far as bearings go , it amazes me that all these guys with a bunch of reels and big tackle connoisseurs don't replace their reel bearings with upgraded ceramic ball bearings when they do their first cleaning of their reels :-? at least put some ABEC 5 or prefferably ABEC 7 bearings in it . do that to a Revo and put in a Smoooth drag washer lightly greased with Cal's drag grease and you have a reel that is every thing you want in a reel .............

Why should you have to do that in order to get everything you want in a reel?

All of my Shimano reels are bone stock and will handle any fish you want to catch.

Good question. I've never had to do anything to my 2010 Premier's except the normal clean and lube thing, like my Shimano's. They fish awesome right out of the box.

imho i think the curado out performes the revo sx in every single way.. i think the revo s is a better reel than the sx. like i said before maybe i got a dud but my sx has more use as a paper weight than it does on the deck of my boat..

Boy, I hear that. I bought an 09 SX on closeout last year. Piece of junk. Worst reel I've ever owned, personally. And I've been buying baitcasters for bass since the late 70's! My 2010 Premier's are so far and away better, it's hard to believe they were made by the same company.

My 2010 SX outcasts and is smoother from the get go than the 6 curado D's and 2 E's Ive owned. I see no difference in the degree of difficulty in stripping either brand down for maintenance. Knock on wood Ive yet to have a backlash on the Revo either.

I was a big time Abu fan until they were bought by Pure Fishing. Anyone who had one before knows those Swedish built reels were a completely different reel than the one's now. They had a distinct feel. Yes, they were bigger and heavier but they were built like tanks. To me, the last good reel they built was the Torno. Some of their reels (Tournament, Tournament Pro, Royal Extreme) even had dual cast control, which is popular nowadays. I know some will disagree with me but that's cool, to each his own. I'm not bashing Abu Garcia, I'm just stating my opinion.

Another thing, I've read people talk about Bass Pro and Pfueger reels and lack of parts availability because they change models so often. But what about parts for Abu Garcia since they roll of the same line now?

Anyway, back to the original question, my vote is for Shimano.

I've heard the 2010 version is much improved. Much like the Premier line was also improved.

Going to use my new revo sx today. Have been using the e7 all year so far. My unbiased opinion will be posted tonight. Untill now all my current reels were shimano

Ive been an abu guy for 5+ years, but the new curado has converted me. Out of the box I was VERY disapointed with its casting, after flushing/relubing the spool bearings its insane how far it will cast. It palms great, is light and does everything I could ever want a baitcaster to do.

My 08' sx left a bad taste in my mouth. I collect ambassaduers and would like to try a revo again, but why bother if Im so blown away from a somewhat lower level shimano?

I would really like to see abu's take on a reel geared for lighter weights. We have seen 9 models of revos but nothing to fill that niche.

I agree the old Swedish Abu's are something else.  I too dont like Pure Fishing.  I wont buy Berkely lines and baits.  The parts for those swedish Abu's are still available and Jerry Foran custom makes those old reels to your specs. He'll even make it a C5 bearing wise and add custom JDM idle gears and such.

I am planning on buying both a Revo and a Curado, im just trying to figure out which one to buy (when I say buy I mean ask my dad and him pay for it for my B-Day lol) first. The Curado is better for light baits and I have heard nothing but good on this thread, what are the Cons?

You will want 5 more! Seriously, some will gripe about the graphite sideplate, but in real world fishing it doesnt matter.

Maybe in a real world of only bass fishing!  Aluminum sideplates have alot to do with the smoothness and longevity of a reel. All to do with alignment of the internals.  Thats why they have to supplement it by putting in those cross pins across the center of the frame.

I have a friend with a bevy of all-graphite Diawa reels from the early '80s.  They have no bearings at all, just bushings.  They used anti-reverse dogs.  Those reels have been used, abused and when he gave them to me to clean I pulled 2+ decades of old congealed grease and dried snot out of them.  These reels have been dropped, used in salt-water, and caught bass, catfish, sea trout, redfish.  Once clean they were, except for scratches, as good as new. 

Graphite in bass reels is a non-issue.

Are you saying graphite warps or something causing an alignment issue?

Naw, I might go buy a Kinetic or Accurist if I want something cheap, this post was not a comparison thread I was just wondering why nobody talked about these brands.

Ok I have seen ALOT of talk about daiwa and I have seen that I like the way Feugos look, how much are these reels and what Daiwa reel is comparable to a Revo or Curado?
