Berkly Vanish Fluorocarbon? Anyone using it and how does it hold up fishing rivers with a lot of stumps and rocks. I see the 14lb is the same diameter as the Stren 12lb. Wonder if it breaks as fast as 12lb Stren will.

I hate it.  Terrible abrasion resistance, horrible knot strength, and really crazy differences in stretch between diameters and even spools of different lines at the same diameter.

I'd been fishing it for quite a little bit, thinking that I'd give it the benefit of the doubt, maybe I'd left the spool out or something.  No dice, of the four spools I've had, all four are just not a product I've been happy with.

AWFULL! This stuff is the reason i didn't give flouro the time of day for a year.

Sadly I don't know why my dad loves it... ACTUALLY he probably just likes the price tag  ;D

I tend not to use florocarbon around rocks. I like to use a copolymer line. I personally use P-Line. They make it with a florocarbon coating also.

I've never used it, but my fishing partner bought some a couple of years ago, and all he did was complain about it.

In all honesty, it's the worst line I have ever used...barring spools that were flawed when they left the factory.

Worst knot strength ever.

I started fishing with Vanish and I liked it alright.  I found P-Line and never looked back.  One of my buddies has been using Vanish for years with no complaints.  Different strokes.

It was so bad that they redesigned it, but they were so worried the name "vanish" would haunt the new product that Berkley 100% fluorocarbon was born. The 100% flouro is amazingly good, but I wouldn't fly my worst kite on Vanish and still wonder why they have not stopped making it. Vanish gets a -10 rating from me, while the Berkley 100% flouro gets a 10.

You guys are too critical.

I always keep a spare spool in my boat. Anytime my co angler needs to respool i just pitch it to them.

Never worry about being outfished after that. They couldn't put a guppy in the boat with that crap.

I used it when it first came out with no major line problems. I did however experience a couple knots fail. So I read a lot of reviews on it and switched before giving it any more time.

x10

Berkley vanish is the worst. The only thing that vanishes is your chance of catching a fish over three pounds.

My first experience with flouro was with this stuff.  I basically gave up on flouro for about a year after that experience. I tried again later with a spool of BPS flouro (XPS) and haven't looked back.

I bought 12# on clearance in 2008. Spooled it up and had a miserable time. It seemed to backlash more and actually broke in my hand as I was using my fingers to get rid of the birds nest.

Since then, I only use BPS Flouro 8# spinning, 12# cranking/casting.

Any idea of who makes BPS fluoro?

It's private label Seaguar.  At least, as of two years ago it was.  I'm not sure of the actual "grade" or composition in comparison to Seaguar's own lines.

I've heard rumors that Toray or Seaguar makes it.

XPS Fluoro is made by Toray last I knew.

I have some Vanish Floro I'm using now. I haven't noticed any issues with memory. I haven't noticed it being any stiffer than mono. I haven't had any problems with it "just breaking apart". I did have a problem with the knots breaking, but I changed the type of bullet weight I was using and went from 4 wraps on my Improved Clinch and Trilene knots to 5 wraps. Since then, no breakoffs. Just one giant backlash that was entirely my fault. I caught a 5 pound bass two weeks ago and it was a close range fist fight in cover. No problem. Line didn't break and I retied afterward just on general principles. No chafing or nicks noted when I cut it off. I use it in rocks, timber, stickups and weeds all the time. Zero problems with the line.

Use it. If you don't like it, try something else. Realize that some people are going to dislike it because it says Berkley or because of the price point. I think my next spool will be BPS just to try it and see if there's any difference. If there is, I'll be the first one to post up and admit it.

I tried Vanish 5 or 6 years ago and hated it. I didn't try Fluorocarbon again untill Berkley came out with the Trilene 100% stuff, I liked it better than Vanish, but I found it to be a little stiff, a little tough to manage on spinning gear, and I was not fond of the price, so I went back to Vanish and honestly......it's not the same line it was 6 years ago, I have had ZERO..............yes ZERO issues with it. I use 8lb on my spinning rods, 17lb on my C-rig/jig rod, 12lb on my cranking rod, and 14lb on my senko rod. Infact I think it is more managable in the same lb test rating than the Trilene stuff. Breaking strength is lower than Trilene in the same LB tests, but so is diameter, which IMHO leads to easier handling. Knowing that I use the line properly, I don't flip jigs into nasty thick cover with 12lb test, or bubba shot with 8lb test on a MH powered rod. I also tie good knots and lube them with spit, and have no knot issues with this line. And I keep my reels drags in good working order...............I know......... so many things you have to do right   ::)

I will say one thing bad about it, it's not Idiot proof line, if you can't tie a good knot, determine the proper line wt./rod power combo for the cover and/or fish your angling for than buy another line.

I tried out a spool on one of my baitcasters this past season... You don't have to worry about me making that mistake again.  I did not have the knot troubles some are describing, but it didn't want to seat well at all on my spool no matter what I tried.  Every other cast I would look down and it had come loose again.  I also had an issue with cast-ability.  Bottom line is I would have spent twenty more bucks for line to avoid all the problems I had with this stuff.
