figure8racer Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Ok so i bought a zillion and a viento used from a guy locally and have started to have some problems with the viento. When i first started using it it worked great casted a mile and no problems. After a few weeks it started to make noise when spooling out and was harder to turn the crank when reeling in. I put some oil in the hole on the right side behind the crank. (used to adjust the side to side tension of the spool) I dont think i was supposed to put oil in there because the noise was reduced but my casting distance maxed out at about 15 yards. I realized my error and pulled the entire reel apart and cleaned everything. I greased the gears and oiled the bearings. I also added just a little oil to each end of the spool thinking it would make it run out smoother. After i got everything together i went out to cast it and same problem with distance. The reel cranks smooth again but just no distance. I did notice while putting it all back together that the spool tension adjust hole that i added oil to originally basically put oil in the same spot that i added it to the spool when reassembling so this may be the problem. My main question is would adding oil in this manner cause this problem or should i start looking at my magnetic brakes/other areas. Any information would be greatly appraciated so this reel doesnt sit around any longer than it has too. By the way my zillion is the smootherst farthest casting reel i have ever encountered. If the viento ended up being junk which i dont think it is i'd be happy either way since i got both for $150 ;D Quote
Super User grimlin Posted August 26, 2010 Super User Posted August 26, 2010 I would send it in to one of the repair guys on here. They could definitely getting it casting smoothly again. Quote
BrASSmonkey Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Are the spool bearings ok? If they are shot, it could affect casting distance. Is the spool shaft bent or damaged at all? Quote
