philsoreel Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I recently started using a shaky setup. I decided to not break the bank with my first rig, at least until I knew if I would use it much. I grabbed a Daiwa Regal 2000-4i out of my closet that I found at an outdoor shop clearance sale for $12 and bought a Dobyns Savvy 6'9" Med/Light. I am more than happy with the rod for now but I would like a better reel for sure. That new Pflueger Patriarch Mag is looking pretty sweet. The Stradic CI4F (red and black one)is also on my radar. That being said....what size reel do I need? Quote
philsoreel Posted August 20, 2010 Author Posted August 20, 2010 Somebody...anybody??? btw I use 8# invizx flouro Quote
kLuo Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 if the stradic CI4 is in your range, then I would say without a doubt go with that reel. Quote
21farms Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 if it's a daiwa, get a 2000-size. if shimano, go for the 2500-size. if pflueger, get the 30-size. if abu, get the 20-size. Quote
philsoreel Posted August 20, 2010 Author Posted August 20, 2010 Alright...2500 seems to be the consensus so a Stradic CI4 2500 it is. Thanks! Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted August 21, 2010 Super User Posted August 21, 2010 I would consider an ultra-sensative rod to be more important than a high-end reel when finesse worm fishing. steve Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted August 21, 2010 Super User Posted August 21, 2010 Alright...2500 seems to be the consensus so a Stradic CI4 2500 it is. Thanks! big mistake when using flouro.all the pros who use flouro use it on a big spool reel.i would get the patriarch in a 3500 size.it will still be super light and give you less line problems.also the patriarch is a far better buy than any shimano.i'm not saying shimano is not a fantastic reel.i'm saying pflueger is better for less money. philsoreel Posted August 23, 2010 Author Posted August 23, 2010 Steve-I agree with you 100% about an ultra sensitive rod being top priority. However, I really don't like this Daiwa I am using. The bail wire seems to be angled further than normal or was bent when I bought it. Gave $12 for it at a discount store so it may have been damaged. No, the Dobyns rod I have isn't anywhere near my Loomis or Cumaras but it's alot better (for me) than any other rod for $150 I have picked up. Dodge-I also have often heard that pro's use a little larger reel with flouro. That's why I asked on here. I was thinking buy the smallest reel I can get away with for weight savings but can a smaller reel handle a 7lb+ bass? I had some drag issues with my pfluegers so I think I'm going to stick with Shimano. Thanks Quote
