Sold off all my Quantums (Tour 1171, Energy 761, Accurist 501) and Pfleugers (Trion, Pres).  All were very good reels, just a bit on the bulky and heavy side.  Switched to Abu, Shimano, and Daiwa for a different spice.

I own two Pfleuger Presidents and two Trions and they are awesome. I still say the Trion is the best reel for $100! I saw them on sale for $59 at Cabelas last week too!!

I also have those two and they are very nice reels for the price.

I have owned a few Pflueger reels and they are great reels for the price but I feel my Shimanos are superior in all aspects. However, in the under $125 range the Pflueger reels are probably as good or better than Shimano/Daiwa. Haven't owned a Quantum since I was 12.

i imagine that the new magnesium spinning reel (the Patriarch) might change your mind ;)

:oYeah, those look awesome. I hadn't seen them before a few mins ago. I learned the hard way that great looks don't equal great reels but I will check them out. Thanks

My fishin' partner uses Phlueger spinning reels and treats them rough.  Ive watched him catch huge Snook over 42" on them and they have been champs.  He throws them down on the boat, drops them on the bank and treats them like I never treat a reel. But they stay smooth, tough and take on tougher fish than any bass.

I own two Pflueger spinning reels and one Quantum. No issues mechanically with any of them, but the Quantum has the worst finish I've ever seen on a reel. I could stare at it and see it tarnish. It is a few years old and Quantum did have finish issues in the past, they may be past that now.

I can echo the above statement.  My quarry are snook, tarpon, jacks and barracuda and these fish are powerful.  I have had no trouble with my supreme 35, Abu soron 40, stradic  fi 4000 and Quantum Cabo 30.  The stadic may be smoothest but not best in field, I give that honor to the Cabo, but it's on the heavy side.  My hands down favorite is my soron 40.

This being said, the rod is more important than the reel, most of the reels will do a more than adequate job.

Forgive me for stepping on this thread but Sirsnook would you mind going into a little more detail about the Stradic not being best in field? I am about to order a new Stradic CI4 and would like to know any negative feedback you might have on it.

Don't get me wrong the stradic is a very good reel, just not my personal favorite, I have others that perform as well if not better.  The only negative thing, besides a sticky bail that I pay no attention to, is the price, I think the entire Shimano line up is 25% over priced and not a great value, jmo.  At least 75% of my fishing is saltwater so I won't go into detail.

As far as my freshwater goes my cardinal 802 is my hands down best performer, originally a saltwater reel that handled snook and tarpon but I wanted more line capacity so I use it for bass now.  I'm sure the c-14 is a fine reel and you be happy with it.  I'm not as hung up on " light weight " as I once was, have no idea what my cardinal 802 weighs but it feels good and I have a supreme 30 that's plenty light and a darn good reel and value.
