Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted August 20, 2010 Super User Posted August 20, 2010 Any opinions on this reel? Never hear a bunch about it, mostly about reels on either side of it's price point (Symetre and Stradic). Let's hear 'em. Quote
zerofivenismo Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I had a 1000 series for about two weeks. Mines had a hitch during retrieval whenever I was working a crappie bait slowly. Hard to explain but the hitch was a particular spot in the retrieving motion where there was more resistance requiring more reeling force. Moderate to fast retrieval speeds yielded no hitch. Thought I had a bad egg, and went to exchange for another one, and it too had the same issue. Cabela's recommended me to use it for a while longer and maybe that'll work out the kink. But I decided to get the Stradic 1000FI instead. Found one locally for the same price as the Saros and Cabelas matched the price. There are a few others that liked the Saros so maybe they can chime in. Quote
trevor Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I have a 3000, and it is a classy reel. As good as the Stradic. Quote
Brian4618 Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I have a 3000, and it is a classy reel. As good as the Stradic. Agree completely, I also have a 3000 and could not be happier, they are very smooth and light. The only problem I see in this reel (probably isnt just this reel) but the frame of it has a tendency to scratch easily. But it isnt hard to keep it clean, mine scratched because it got left in the jon boat on the way home. But this reel is worth every penny and more, in fact I have another Saros on the way to my door. flippin and pitchin Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I was never big on paying more than 60 bucks for a spinning reel and felt that price point provided all I would ever need or want. Then I picked up a 3000 Soros. There really is a difference in performance. Now I have a matched pair. I'm surpised you are looking at the 1000. It's pretty small, panfish size. It's also the first Shimano model with the free spool you pay for in the original purchase price. Quote
