Skeet22 Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 I already have 9 rods rigged up for different presentations without one for Jigs as I have never dedicated myself to Jig fishing. Well the time has come and I want to gain some confidence with Jigs.My morning top water consist of a buzz bait rod, a pop-r rod, a7'8" H braid rig with a Spro or Spro JR tied on, and a Kistler 7' MH rod w/ 65# braid I use for Ribbits, Horny Toads etc. I usually throw all of these until around 8 am then switch to other techniques when it heats up. What are your opinions on replacing the Braid on my buzz frog rod with 17# xps Flouro and using this as my Jig rod once the top water bite is over? I know Flouro is not recommended for topwater but since the buzz frog is a retreived lure I dont think it will be an issue. Also I usually only fish the buzz frog in sparse grass and opt for the Spro in heavy matted areas. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted July 29, 2010 Super User Posted July 29, 2010 even being a retrieved lure the flouro will pull the buzz frog under water. Not necessarily a bad thing, but not what you going to want all the time. Peronally I would go with 17lb Suffix Siege which would be good for both applications. Quote

Is flouro really that dense that it would actually pull a retreived bait down? Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted July 29, 2010 Super User Posted July 29, 2010 Leave the braid on. Just tie on a fluoro leader if you're worried about line visibility. Quote

I have fished poppers (Pond fishing and only bring one rod) with a rod rigged with FC and it was fine so long as I didnt pause more then 2-3 secs between my pop pop pop... Quote
