gotarheelz14 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Ok so, I bought a 7'8 Carrot Gold Heavy/Fast that I was going to use for Pitching/Flipping, Frogs, and Swimbaits. I was going to use it as a workhorse. This rod is now broken so I am thinking maybe I need something else. I kind of wanted a rod that I could just use for Flipping and that I could work worms and such back to the shore. As I look at them, I have been impressed by the St Croix Legend Tournament rod and on a cheaper end of the spectrum, the Powell 765 Flipping rod that people on here recommended me. I want to know though, I have seen a trend of pitching rods being made in medium-fast which I think is to give you more leverage in pulling fish out of cover. The Powells though for example all have extra fast tips??? So, what do you think is better for this type of situation? Fast tip or something with a little more give? Thanks, Carlos Quote
WanaBe_Like_IKE Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Well I was listening to Bub Tosh (pro puncher/flipper) and he said that he like a Fast with a little more give cause he think when you set the hook really hard that 1 1/2 ounce wheight is opening the fishes mouth. So... I would say a Fast tip, Samuel Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I own the Powell and it is a beast. It is ExFast but fishes more like a Fast Taper. I love it and would recommend it to everyone. I will not buy anything but a Powell for casting rods now. Quote
SJB1226 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I really like Fast tips on my F/P sticks.. but what you have to remember is that one persons fast is the next persons XF and the Next persons MF... if its a well known rod maker they know what they want there sticks to do... and the taper will fit what they want that rod to do... some rod companies will slow the tip down just a little because they have a stiffer mid section in the rod... so if they made it a XF tip with the stiffer mid in the rod it would make a axe handle... but with that stiffer mid and a slightly slower tip it will = out to about the same as any other flipping stick out there. some people will agree with how I said this and some others wont.. but thats just how it is..
