So I have been getting into some small swimbaiting lately and I need to find a decent rod for it. Realistically I probably wouldn't throw anything over 5oz. Mostly under 4 oz.

I just can't justify spending 200+ on a swimbait rod. I just don't feel that I need a super sensitive or even super light rod to chuck swimbaits. The fish are hitting what I'm throwing like a ton of bricks. I don't want it to be too heavy though.

So far I've researched the Okuma Big Bait rod, the Mojo Swimbait rod, the All Star ASR908C, and a few others I wasn't too impressed with.

It would also be nice if this rod could be versatile and not only usable for swimbaits...

Does anyone have input on the rods I have suggested or maybe a rod I haven't seen yet? :-?

I recently bought a Shimano Crucial swimbait rod for $150 from TW.  I haven't used this rod yet because I have been away but I own another Crucial rod and it has been extremely durable!  It was my first baitcasting rod and along with lots of bass I've also caught quite a few tiger musky with it.

I have the 7'11"HF Okuma Guide Select rod. I toss 8" Punkers, Hudd'sBBZ's and 3:13 Mission baits w/o any problems. I can also throw 6" Hudd's and other baits with it too. I have a Curaso 301E and the balance is fine. Granted, it's not as light as the high priced rods, but for under 120.00 shipped, it's hard to beat.

I looked at several rods, couldn't afford the one I wanted, but have no regrets with the Okuma.

Carrot Stix snap like twigs.

The Powell swimbait rod lure ratings make no sense for the range in which I intend to use them.

The Crucial Swimbait rod looks ok, but I need to find a deal on it. I never was a fan of paying retail.

Did you see this one? :-?

No I didn't see that one thank you for pointing that out.  Is that on Tackle Warehouse?

Hammer, the Okuma Guide Select has always been in the back of my mind, and if I can't find something better for a better price I probably will end up getting the 7'6 MH.

I'm on ebay everyday checking for deals!  :(

A dude I sold a reel to a while back called me up and was like if you ever have a open seat on the boat let me know.. anyhow I called him about three weeks ago and we went he had a Daiwa Heartland Big Bait Special there like 70 bucks and its rated at 1/2-6oz's or 1-6oz cant remember it was a 7'6 rod.. I threw it a few times and was wowed at its a 70 dollar rod.. its balanced and its not crazy heavy has a nice tip and its stout lol... I dont know if thats a little to low end of a rod then you want to go but IMHO it fished well from what I seen I mean its not a high end stick by any means but it seemed like a heck of a 100-120 dollar stick at much less then that... when I fished it I was like how much was it 110? hes like no 70 and I said wow thats impressive. I could feel the tail of the kicking on the Roboworm EZ shad swimbait with a Owner beast 6/0 1/4oz hook I rigged on it to play with.. he said he had 20# Berkley 100% FC spooled on the Daiwa BBS I sold him and like I said even on the very end of very long casts I could feel the tail with ease I caught one on it about 3lb's got bit about 80-100 feet away from the boat and had no problem feeling the strike and popped it to her and the rod just man handled the fish as you would expect.. this rod is really worth looking in to for a well priced nice quality swim bait stick..

I have a Few JDM rods I use for swim baits and Daiwa Steez 7'4 Extra Hvy that I use..

I dont have any rods that are rated at over 3ozs but I never throw baits over 3oz;s anyhow..

So I'm gonna buy me one now that Im talking about it lol im glad I checked them post out cause I wouldnt have thought about it if I didnt! I'm ordering it as soon as im done typing this.. I want a rod that I dont care about cause its cheap and it preformed well and it can handle some big stuff lol way bigger then anything I will be throwing im sure. Im gonna mount a Daiwa Millionaire 203 CV-Z on it that I have laying around and spool it with 25# Sunline Shooter FC.

Not true at all.

I have had the 7'6" Carrot for three years and have not had a problem.

The equipment gets used, not abused.  This rod is still working just fine.

I researched the Carrot because the 7'6 seemed great for what I wanted. I found COUNTLESS reviews of people who had broken them on hooksets of 2lb bass.

My friend bought one from Cabela's a couple weeks ago and it broke on the 5th CAST. He didn't abuse it it any way. He didn't even get to set the hook let alone catch a fish.

A thread was started not too long ago on Carrot stix because they were on sale. Several members again pointed out that they have broken these rods. I'm pretty sure that many people didn't "abuse" their Carrots.

I really wanted to get one Speedbead, but there are way to many people who have had problems with them recently.

Most of these problems seem to be happening within the last two years.  Perhaps they don't make 'em like they used to.

Yes it is. They made a typo.

Ahh I see.  Thanks for clearing that up Bassclary.  I was wondering why there was such a huge gap in lure weights for those swimbait rods.  Tackle Warehouse isn't the only site that lists the lure weights wrong either.  I hope it truly is a typo. :-?

I find that Tackle warehouse has alot of typos

Yeah they really do.  This would be the fifth one I've found.  And its not like these are small insignificant typos either.  These are the kind of typos that could cause you to make the wrong purchase.

Very strange for such a good tackle site.

I was about to pull the trigger on I a St.Croix of some sort there, but at the last second i decided to double chech it with SC's website. The power was 2 ratings off and the action was Mod/fast instead of fast. I made sure to tell them about it, and because they're such a great store they gave me a $25 gift card  8-) Great store!
