qp_iGniTe_qp1301600405 Posted August 17, 2010 Author Posted August 17, 2010 I was just looking around at the rods that all of you suggested and then I found this one. I mean if its a good rod why not get it instead because its so much cheaper. But I was just wanting to see if anyone had any experience using it. Quote

ChiCityBasser Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I would go with a Cabelas XML which are on sale for $70 and a Quantum Catalyst which is on sale for $90 and come in at $160 plus tax or shipping. The XML series of rods is great and is normally $140 and I have 4 of them and can't beat the warranty. If you are looking for a crankbait rod I would suggest the Cabelas Prodigy PDC705-1 MH/MF which I have and use as a shallow to medium crankbait rod. I have it paired with a Daiwa Exceler and the total combo investment is $130. Cabelas also has the XMLTi rods on sale for $119-$140 http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0030280119418a&navCount=5&podId=0030280&parentId=cat20372&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat20166-cat20372&catalogCode=9IS&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20372&hasJS=true Quote
repper Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 For the amount you've listed I would get a Powell 703 or 704 and pair it with the Curado 100. You could fish all of the things you mentioned, and for the money the Powell's have good sensitivity when fishing with jigs, t-rigs, etc. If you can spend a bit more you should consider a Dobyns rod, with the Curado. SJB1226 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 First things first, this is my first post on these forums and I would just like to say hello to all.I have been using a spinner set up for a while now a just got the interest to use a baitcaster. What would be a good setup for myself considering that I mainly throw jigs, senkos soft bait etc., and frogs. Price range would not be too limited but also not crazy expensive. Thanks. this is would make you a really sweet setup! A Daiwa Zillion 7.1 and a Zillion rod 6.9MH XF.. that rod is very very sensitive (The Zillion rods are IMHO are very close to as Sensitive as my Steez and I should know lol I own A LOT of Steez and a few Zillion rods and there light to) that rod is mega powerful and will handle frogs with ease and has plenty of sensitivity for any soft plastic. that setup with 40# braid will give you all you need for any single hook rig and frogs.. balances well in hand and is pretty light... Zillion rods are light the reels are a little heavier but I weighed that setup right now for you and it comes out at 362 grams. thats not bad when you look at how powerful that rod and reel is. plus it will last you forever. I think it would be something you would really enjoy and you could get the setup new if you look for sales or on ebay for a deal on the reel 420ish... Quote
