Super User burleytog Posted July 15, 2010 Super User Posted July 15, 2010 You know what WOULD be great? A high end Shimano LP reel that has a decent amount of line capacity. How much line do you need? More than 90 yards of 12lb test. I want something I can put a lot of 15-17lb test on. I've never needed more line than what I can fit on my Core 50. And I use 17 lb. fluorocarbon on it. What are you using it for? What aren't I using it for? I've used it for everything from pitching jigs to throwing crankbaits. In one night I might use it to pitch a jig to a close brushpile, then use it to make a 25 yard cast along a bluff wall. IMO it's the perfect sized spool. Quote

So I won't regret buying one and using it for soft plastics, jigs, etc...? I want a sweet reel for my upcoming all purpose DELUXE combo but I was skeptical if a small spool like that could really be all purpose. Was also considering a Chronarch D but the line capacity is pretty much the same as the core. Quote

I've done everything with the reel and have never wanted/needed more line. I ran 15 lb. fluoro last year, stepped up to 17 lb. this year. No, it doesn't hold a lot of line (wouldn't even wager a guess as to how much), but I don't need 100 yards of line for anything I do. Quote
Alex77 Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I love my 50MG7 and will probably pick up a new Curado 50 to try out when they become available. 80-90 yards of line is plenty for anything I need to do while bass fishing. Cranks, spinners, jigs, buzzbaits...you name it. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 16, 2010 Super User Posted July 16, 2010 The Core 50MG7 is my favorite reel...PERIOD! However, I really like the Curado 200E7 and suspect the new 50E will be another "everybody's favorite". 8-) Quote

northern basser Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Sorry, I screwed that quote up somehow. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted July 16, 2010 Super User Posted July 16, 2010 Ok, thanks BL. You just talked me back into wanting the Core... Quote

Super User Dan: Posted July 16, 2010 Super User Posted July 16, 2010 I trust his opinion on gear, even if it means I'm probably going to spend a lot of money. Quote

Simp Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Hmm this Curado 50E may spark me to try a nice finesse baitcast set up. As many on here know I hate spinning gear for the most part. I've been looking or rather wanting to have pinpoint pitching and flipping with finesse lures, but I just can't do it well on spinning yet. Quote
repper Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 The Core 50 is my favorite reel too. But for 200 bucks that Curado 50 is going to sell like hotcakes. But if you can afford it, the Core 50 is awesome, and you certainly won't regret the purchase. This reel throws light baits better than anything else I have, and I've got Daiwa's Sol, and a Shimano Chronarch 50, which both do really well too, but the Core 50 is awesome. Quote
