tkite16 Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 I got one of these reels and just tried it out on lake of the ozarks. This reel is awesome. I have never used a reel that pitches as far and as smooth as this one. I wondered if I could make regular casts with it and it performed great. I used a small jewel eakins jig with zoom chunk and seriously I didn't pull line out 1 time for spool overrun all day that I can think of. Well done ardent. And made in America too. 8-) 8-) Quote
SJB1226 Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I fish NOTHING but Daiwa... however this is the only Non Daiwa on the boat... he is right this real is awesome... If you love to pitch then you need this reel. It does its job better then anything else ive used for pitching. I have mine mounted on a Steez compile-X 8' flipping rod.. I find my self picking it up more then I do my Steez Compile-X 8'/TD-Z type R setup.. intill I owned this reel I would have said nothing else pitches as good as a Type R but this reel does and even better... just wish it was lighter. Quillback Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Is there a drag adjustment on these pitching reels? From what I can tell the drag is preset at the factory and you can't adjust it? Quote
tkite16 Posted August 14, 2010 Author Posted August 14, 2010 Nope no adjustment. Fill it with braid and yank them out. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted August 14, 2010 Super User Posted August 14, 2010 Is there a drag adjustment on these pitching reels? From what I can tell the drag is preset at the factory and you can't adjust it? It does have the "casting" adjustment to prevent backlash, but the drag is fixed. I have the F500 and love it. It's matched with a 7'6" Fenwick HMG and 55lb Samuari braid Quote
SJB1226 Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Drag is I believe set at the factory at 28#.. its locked down lol lots and lots of drag...This reel doesnt give the fish a chance. I fish mine on a Steez 8' Compile-X flipping stick and 70# Daiwa braid. one of these will be sitting on my NRX 854C Im waiting for. two non Daiwa reels on the boat for me? lmao kinda feels odd typing that. the way this reel feels in hand I believe its gonna be very comfortable on that NRX reel seat. I just REALLY hope braid isnt as loud with the hybrid guide setup on the NRX as it is one GLX's we will see I should have them monday. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted August 14, 2010 Super User Posted August 14, 2010 if your braid is loud your using the wrong braid. Quote
SJB1226 Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 if your braid is loud your using the wrong braid. Lol Daiwa braid is MUCH smoother through guides then Fireline braid lol! I know you love that stuff and it is good but its not up there with the Daiwa stuff in the smoothness, tightness of the weave and Dia department's lol Daiwa stuff makes less noise through recoil guides then anything fireline braid is a pretty close 2nd in the noise dept. Its just a rod in that price range should be Ti/Sic's or even Gold cerment. not those stupid Recoil pieces of $h%t IMHO and a whole lot of peeps will agree Recoil guides arent good for anything Ide rather have a set of Fuji Alconites then recoils. I HATE THEM I dont want them on any rod I own and if I REALLY like my NRX's I will have them re-wrapped to full Ti/Sic's. Quote
