Super User Shane J Posted August 8, 2010 Super User Posted August 8, 2010 I just got home from BPS, where I bought a Shimano Cumara CUC-X68MH. I get home, rig it on up with my Curado E7, and fill the spool with line. Then I go to put the hook on the hook keeper, and I know this is gonna sound stupid, But I don't see where the hook goes! It clearly says "convenient hook keeper", but I'm not seeing it anywhere. Am I losing my mind? Quote
0119 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Thats one thing I hate about the Cumara. Look at the end of the grip, its a tiny hole in the foam. OK for a single hook, rotten for a treble. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted August 8, 2010 Author Super User Posted August 8, 2010 Ahhhh! Thank you very much! Yeah, they could have done better on that, but I do love this rod! Matches very nice with the Curado. Appreciate the help in my dumb moment there. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted August 8, 2010 Super User Posted August 8, 2010 drill a small hole through the trigger .it makes the best hook keeper Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted August 8, 2010 Super User Posted August 8, 2010 Fuji EZ-Keeper. Cost you like 4 bucks at BPS. Problem Solved. The hook keeper design on the Cumara is just silly. The one thing I can complain about Shimano rods is that the hook keepers suck. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted August 8, 2010 Author Super User Posted August 8, 2010 I love the idea of the e-z keeper! Thanks, SoFla. Quote
shackman Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Hey SJ..what is the price that BPS has on the cumara's if you don't mind me asking.. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted August 8, 2010 Super User Posted August 8, 2010 drill a small hole through the trigger .it makes the best hook keeper Ya think that might mess up the warrenty ? Quote
0119 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Good luck with the e z keeper. I found them to be a real pain. They move easily, and line gets caught on it during some slack line techniques like walkin the dog. I find they dont work at all on my cumara spinning rod. They line constantly gets caught on it. BossHoss Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Clip off the tip of a wire coat hanger and attach it wherever you want with a zip tie... basically free. Quote
Gale1980 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 how about just hook it to the reel? thats what i do and most people i fish with do if there is no hook keeper on rod. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted August 9, 2010 Author Super User Posted August 9, 2010 I paid $219 for the Cumara. Best money I ever spent on a rod. If those e-z keepers aren't any good, I'll have to look around, and see what I find, and in the mean time, I'll just use the stock keeper. I'll have plenty of time, because in a week, the reel is being sent out for super tuning and a drag upgrade. Hopefully another visit to BPS outta solve my rod's keeper problem. Quote
TJHfishin Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 i have the same combo minus the mh i have the medium xfast with the curado it is amasing Quote
hitchhiker Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 You could also use those zip ties that have a loop on the end. Attach the reel, and put the zip tie on the threads ahead of the reel and clip it close. Or you could buy a hook keeper from a rod building supply catalog and wind one on. Either one should be an easy diy. Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 9, 2010 Super User Posted August 9, 2010 how about just hook it to the reel? thats what i do and most people i fish with do if there is no hook keeper on rod. Hooking to reel to scratch away the anticorrosion coat on my Chronarchs and Scorpions Mg, no thanks ! Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted August 9, 2010 Super User Posted August 9, 2010 If you can find this type of cable tie http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://images.drillspot.com/pimages/409/40938_300.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.drillspot.com/products/124032/Tyrap_TY537MX_Mounting_Head_1_4_IN_Screw_Hole_Cable_Tie&usg=__lRuJ83WnSIwPHMhDsdP9JPCr6As=&h=300&w=300&sz=61&hl=en&start=1&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=990WvCZ_22sddM:&tbnh=116&tbnw=116&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dwire%2Bties%2Bwith%2Bscrew%2Bholes%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26ndsp%3D20%26tbs%3Disch:1 in the appropiate size it works well. I've done it on several rods and it worked out good. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted August 10, 2010 Super User Posted August 10, 2010 why don't you do it the right way , go to a rod builder , choose the hook keeper you would like to have on the rod and have him/her wrap one one in exactly the spot you want it at !!! and it will look like it came from the factory !!!! should only cost you like 20 bucks and the price of a hook keeper (like 2 bucks) Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted August 11, 2010 Super User Posted August 11, 2010 Never use the hook keeper, have yet to see any one else use it. Normally I tie my lure fresh when I get to my fishing site, but when not using that rod the guide works fine never producing a nick. Quote
shortbasser Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Hook holster. Made by Faultline Outdoors. Avail at BPS or you can order direct from Faultline and save yourself some $$. www.faultlineoutdoors.com. I have them on all my rods. Work great. Shortbasser Quote
