NCthompson Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 i just got from fishing on the bank today and tried almost everyone of my lures because i didnt know what works midday 65 degree weather. Whats something I should try next time that is good for winter and pre spawn that most bass fisherman should use or know how to do Quote
Super User Tin Posted February 9, 2008 Super User Posted February 9, 2008 A light ( 1/8 oz or lighter) c-rigged lizard dragged on shallow stump fields or parallel to the sides of docks on spawning flats. Quote
John J. Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 A jig! That and also try throwing a rattle-trap. I've had luck with the rattle-trap so far. My model is the Bleeding-Shad Series. I've also heard and read that jerkbaits are good too! Quote
Guest avid Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 don't forget the jerkbait......Aggressive jerks get the job done. In the water I mean. Quote
NCthompson Posted February 9, 2008 Author Posted February 9, 2008 is the rapala original floater a jerk bait? Quote
BassFishingMachine Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Here are some jerkbaits: http://www.luckycraft.com/luckycraftimages/productnews/walleye2_pointer_s.jpg http://www.cansionpesca.com/tiendaonline/images/rapala-xrap-10-14.jpg I prefer a small rapala jerkbait in the winter, about the exact size of the gold/black jerkbait on the bottom in this link: http://www.yo-zuri.com/images/Prod3dMicro/3D-MinnowText.jpg Now around here in NJ its pretty darn cold, in the low 40s, im not fishing for bass atm, cause its just too difficult, I'll wait for March, anyways even in March the temperature is still pretty cold, so when im fishing the jerkbaits in this cold water I'll fish them really slow, as slow as I can make myself go. I use suspending jerkbaits for winter, not floating. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted February 9, 2008 Super User Posted February 9, 2008 my favorite technique for prespawn/spawning bass is definitley crankbaits/jerkbaits. i love to run a shallow crank or jerkbait over bass beds. my favorites to use are rapala DT in sizes 3 and 4 (6 if the waters deep enough), xraps are also very productive; my favorite size of xrap is size10. if the spawning beds are very shallow (a few spawning flats around here are in only 6-8" of water) then you should also try a bandit footloose or rapala original floater in size 11. with the xrap i jerk it alot and then pause it when its close to a bed. with the cranks what i do is i will just reel em straight back, but make sure the crank dives deep enough to dig into the bottom or close to it. i will run it over and around the beds. good luck! prespawn/spawn is a fun time to fish for bass! HesterIsGod Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Just remember to fish a little slower most of the time and fish the baits/techniques in areas that hold fish this time of year and pretty much any technique will work. Quote
