Im new to this forum but longtime lurker or somthing like that

I started bass fishing a few months ago and im hooked!

Im looking to buy a new combo under $200. I like open blank reel seats, texas rig hook keeper (as seen on the vendetta), split grip and I want to try the new micro guides. In reels I like external brakes, low profile baitcaster, and colors doesnt matter at all I will put a gold reel on a purple rod.

So what do you seggest? This what I will ask for my birthday

Well my suggestion is a BPS combo like this

http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10205011_100003000_100000000_100003000_100-3-0

or

if you aren't set on split-grips this is the way I'd go

If you wan't to build your own combo, I'd look at the Falcon Bucco, Vendetta, Lamiglas Excel, or Okuma EVX for rods, I think they match your criteria for a rod.

As for the reel, the decent $100 reel market is kinda small, I'd look at the BPS Pro Qualifier, Carbonlite, or Extreme.  There are also the Daiwa Exceler, Abu Garcia Orra SX, Shimano Caenan which isn't out yet, and Quantum Accurist.  If you want too go a little over, say $120 you should look at the Shimano citica.

What do you mean except micro guides? And I looked at that combo but my dad says I should go with like a Revo SX or somthing cause it is just simply built better, he has one

A budget microguide rod isn't out yet, wait a little bit and Wright and McGill will be bringing a $99 micro guide tessera and e21 will be bringing out the Carrot Stix Wild which had micro guides.

And as for the SX, its a great reel but that leaves less than $40 if you have to stay under $200

Ok I can get Shimano, Abu Garcia, Daiwa, Quantum, Pfleuger, Castaway, Wright and Mcgill, E21, All Star, Falcon and more that I can think of wholesale so I have been looking at the Bucoo, I wont be gettin a Skeet Reese until the new lighter one comes out and Im not gettin a carrot stix until they fix the breaking problem

So you can give me like $150 combos and I can get them for like $200

Falcon Bucoo with a Carbonlite reel. I own 1 and it is a good combo for your money.

I dont think I want a Carbonlite, I could get a Revo S and a Bucoo for $160 or a Sx and Bucoo for $190

EDIT: Ok this will be my Worm/Jig rod so I would like it to be really light Im thinking about waiting untill the Veritas comes out and I will probably be able to get it for like $60 and Pair it with a Revo Premier this will be a $380 combo but I can get it for $240

suggest a guft card and then decide on the gear later...

You might want to check the Cabela's website...the Cabela's Club or the Bargain Cave where there are lots of combos.

Dad's always right.

The REVO S has internal brakes, remember that. I'd go SX/BuCoo.

Thats the only reason I dont already have it, I think I will go with the SX or Premier and Bucoo or Veritas but I will do that on my own, thx for everyones help

EDIT: Oh does anyone know how much the Bucoo weighs?

Okay, this thread is moving way fast to follow.  I'll just put in my 2 cents and be gone.  The Shimano Citica is a hell of a reel, internal centrifugal brakes I know, but still what I consider the best braking system on the market.

I'm selling one over in the flea market forum, only because I got some crazy deals on Curados - you can pick up a brand new Citica from me for $95 TYD.

if your set on the revo i would get the revo s... imo i think the revo sx is worse due to the mag brakes not a fan of mag brakes

I like the Revo S, But to get to the brakes I would haft to un-srew it then pop the cap open every single time. So im going with the SX STX or Premier and does anyone know what the Bucoo wheighs and is it really soft?

get the curado then it has the quick 1/8 turn on the sideplate and its a better reel imo. but the revo s is easy to i mean it takes about 8 seconds to adjust the brakes on a revo s but yes the curado is easier

Yes we are cousins but he gets his stuff from me. He said he was leaving this forum cause everyone was mean or something and he was gonna stop fishing but he's annoying so I really don't care
