I have been looking for a daiwa reel and I've narrowed my choices down to the tierra and the advantage hsta and the sol and fuego. Which one would be better for lighter baits and would be better for throwing lighter baits i can get all of them for under 210.

Can't speak to the Tierra, but can speak to the others.

The Fuego excels with baits over 1/4 oz.  It is respectable with 1/4 oz baits.  Below that, it certainly wouldn't be my top choice.  It is a great all-round bass reel, though.

The Advantage HSTA is expectional.  It cast any bass bait well, including 1/4 oz baits.  This surprised me because it is a relatively large reel.

The Sol, if you can get one new, is really the way to go.  It handles light baits better than the others.

But the HSTA is really good, too.

The Sol cast light baits very well.

Thank you micro so overall the advantage is the way to go. The reason im looking at these is i really like the magforce braking system for pitching and castiong. But my last experiences with daiwa have been terrible i have an excelr and 2 trillionaires and they just make horrible noises when casting and reeling. does the advantage make noises while casting i really like shimanos for there quiteness are these daiwas as quite thank you so much

Frankly, I don't know why they even have the Exceller line when they have the Advantage line (Tierra is based on the Advantage).  I've heard way too many complaints about Exceller reels (Exceller, Trillionaire, Aggrest) making noises on casting, and clutch bar issues.

The Advantage HSTA is as good an all-around baitcaster as you will find.  It is an excellent value at its price point.  And yes, it's quiet.

if you are gong to be throwing light weights with it, then the Sol is the way to go. it's great at throwing the lighter weights. some good deals at the present, on ebay. Daiwa no longer makes the reel, so if you want one better pull the trigger soon.

Not to start a thing here BUT..........I have the exact opposite expierance. My Tierra and Advantage's have all at one time or another made  noise casting, and I have not had that problem with Excellers at all. I will say that a good clean and lube cures all with those reels, but it seems odd that they are so finicky.

As for casting lighter baits. The Fuego is a turd, less than 3/8's is an adventure at best. The Advantages are good down to a 1/4, my Tierra seems to be some where between the 2, again odd, as they are the same reel as the Advantage for the most part. And believe it or not the best casting Diawas I have are the cheaper Excellers and the older Procaster 6+1.

I have an older Exceler and it's been great at 1/4 oz lures as I use it as a crankbait reel. I haven't had the noise or gear issue problems and got my reel used off ebay. It's been a very solid reel for me.

Of the ones you are looking at I would go with the Sol from what I have read and heard about them on the board and the reviews.

Thank you guys and yes i find that its weird i even sent them back to daiwa to get fixed and they came back the exact same so i left daiwa alone. But i love the way daiwas look but look isnt everything so i think ill get the advantage im going to match it to a powel 733xf but might get the sol instead of the rod.Thank you guys

Of the three, the Sol will be your best light bait lure.  I prefer my Fuego for an all around lure due to its weight.  My HSTA is my spinnerbait reel, and I do not throw anything below 3/8 on it regularly.

With respect to the noise on the Exceler series; is it a whirring noise on casts?  It could be a burr on a part associated with the spool.

I suggest that you consider getting a reel super tuned to cast light lures.

For a start, see:  http://super-tuning.home.mindspring.com/i1.html

If you have the $, you might also consider the Daiwa Pixy, and the Shimano Conquest 50 reels.  Small reels where it's much easier to get the spool started with light lures.
