onion Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 With the secret popularity in swim baits arriving on the east coast (Basstrix,Bass Magic ect.) I've got my hands on some!!! What seems to be the best way to rig these baits? Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted February 9, 2008 Super User Posted February 9, 2008 secret??? these are the hottest baits around the country right now. no secret there. anyway, lots of people texas rig them with a weighted hook (weight on the hoook shank, so it falls horizontal). ive never used em but thats what alot of people here seem to do. onion Posted February 9, 2008 Author Posted February 9, 2008 Thanks! I have tried to rig a couple on a Storming Hornet. I thought I would also try a weighted fluke hook but all I have is a 2%. Looks like I need at least a 5% hook with a wind gap. The small hook comes straight out of the top however I prefer more hook with such a big bait. Quote

littlefisher Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 It depends on the situation how they are rigged. Some of them come prepackaged with a hook in them. Most of the prepackaged baits have just a hook coming out of the top of the back and the eye right above the nose. I like those for drop offs and weed edges, situations where I'm less opt to snag on anything. I prefer one Texas rigged if I am fishing any sort of lay downs or thick cover. Quote
HesterIsGod Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Yeah these baits could not be further from secret. You can rig them with a special weighted hook, or you can rig them the way I call the redneck rig. Just take any old wide gap hook that is not too big or small for the bait, and one or two split shot. Then just crimp the split shot on the shank of the hook. Quote
