southtexasbassin Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Can you use a baitcaster for finesse fishing? I hear and read that spinning tackle is the way to go when fishing finesse. Any comments or suggestions. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted July 24, 2010 Super User Posted July 24, 2010 Depends how light you go with "finesse" fishing. Anything under 1/4 oz and I'd recommend spinning gear. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted July 24, 2010 Super User Posted July 24, 2010 Finesse fishing is more about an attitude than any particular gear. You can finesse fish with bait casting gear and you can power fish with spinning gear. Quote

If you're specifically talking about lighter weight baits; yes, you can use a baitcaster. Just make sure you have a reel that is capable of tossing out lightweight lures. You'll need a rod to match it as well. If I plan on using anything under 1/8 oz, I'll switch to spinning though. Quote
smallwatermayhem Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Some smaller reels with shallower, lighter spools, like the Daiwa Pixy, Daiwa SOL, Shimano Curado 50, Shimano Curado 100D, Shimano Core 50mg, etc can throw light lures well. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted July 24, 2010 Super User Posted July 24, 2010 i love baitcasting but for smaller lures that are really light spinning is the way to go. Quote
smallwatermayhem Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Finesse fishing? That's what they made SOL's, Pixy's, and Curado 50E's for. Quote
