burce Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 So Dick's has some good deals going on right now where I live, and I've been meaning to get a baitcasting setup since I only have an old shakespeare intrepid spinning setup I got several years ago for like $30. So here are my options, what do you guys think? 1. Abu Garcia Revo SX with an All Star Select 7' medium heavy rod for $89.99 2. Pflueger Criterion with an All Star Select 6.5" medium heavy rod for $79.99 3. Shimano Citica 200e (just the reel, no rod) - $119 + whatever the rod costs that I buy I was planning on getting the Citica but at the prices of the other two combos I'm not sure anymore. What do yall think? I mainly fish for bass, carp and catfish. Thanks Quote
lsufan334 Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Holy crap is that for real on #1??? If so can i paypal you the $$$ for shipping and everything and u pick one up for me. Thats a sweet deal Quote
Bassin_0502 Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Just checked and BPS has the Revo SX (alone) for $169.99. So unless there should be a '1' in front of the price you quoted, I guess I'd buy what I could carry and start selling on the sites Flea market! Quote

Well there are 3 left, I'm afraid of buyiing them all and not being able to sell the other two. Guess that's what I'm getting then Quote
TBendBassin Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 the revo sx might be last years model.. i would take a citica over the revo sx ANYDAY Quote
SDoolittle Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 It's a good deal no matter what year model it is. The Citica is a decent real, but you can't beat a Revo/ All Star combo at that price. Quote
hookingem Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 your first option is a freaking steal! although my dad picked up a G Loomis at dicks once for 35$! Quote
burce Posted August 1, 2010 Author Posted August 1, 2010 After hearing the opinions on the revo sx I can't wait to grab a couple tomorrow. Thanks for the advice everyone! Quote
TBendBassin Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 ill pay you to take my revo sx off my hands! maybe i got a dud i don't know. im a shimano guy but i did buy the revo s which is a good reel imo, i won a sx and a premier, the sx being the worst reel ive owned but then again it is a good deal on that rod and reel combo Quote
SDoolittle Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 ill pay you to take my revo sx off my hands! I'll PM you my address. You can send me the reel and a check! Quote

Why don't you like it? Quote
TBendBassin Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 im just not a big fan of the mag brakes.. ok when i got this reel i really didn't know what i was going to use it for. well i decided i could always use a back up combo for throwing unweighted senkos, so i spooled it up with trilene 100% fluorocarbon matched it up with a falcon cara. i was at the lake and went to test it out first cast major backlash so i made some adjustments and again major backlash over and over again. now i know what some might be thinking but no ive been using baitcasting since i was knee high to a duck and all i own is baitcasting reels except my dropshot setup, my point, i know what im doing. i don't know it just doesn't seem to compare to a shimano.. i have nothing against revos like i said i have two others and they are good reels just not the sx Quote
burce Posted August 1, 2010 Author Posted August 1, 2010 Awww, went back to Dicks today and realized the first option was a Revo S and not an SX. Still got it though since The Revo S + the All Star Select rod for $90 is still a good deal what do yall think about the Revo S? Still a good reel? Quote
Stasher1 Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 The Revo S is a good reel too. X2 I'd take a Revo S over an SX any day of the week. I'm not a fan of magnetic brakes at all. Quote

Alright cool, I really hope I like how it fishes. This is my first baitcaster and I;m looking forward to using it Quote
Red Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 I just got my 4th Revo S a couple weeks ago, and that is all I will buy as long as they keep making them. I have two that were bought this year and two that were bought a couple years ago. If is wasn't for the boat rash I wouldn't be able to tell them apart, they all work perfectly. Best reel for the $$ in my opinion. Quote

I'm new to baitcasters so I don't want to end up messing it up a ton right off the bat Quote
