Tom Kistler Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I just bought a ST CROIX PS-60L PREMIER GRAPHITE ONE PIECE FISHING ROD SPINNING 5'6" MED 4-8 LB LINE LURE WT 1/16-5/16 OZ from ebay and am not sure what kind of reel would be best for it. Any tips or information will help because I have never bought a reel by itself. Thanks Quote
Gale1980 Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 i have a sahara myself and i second that! very nice little reel smooth as butter and not bad on the pocket book! Quote
okiefisher8 Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Any Shimano reel would be good, although if your using it for bass I would go with a 2500 size, not the smaller size Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 25, 2010 Super User Posted July 25, 2010 Tom, if you can, go to a sporting goods store with your new rod and get the clerk to allow you to put some spinning reels on the rod to see how they feel and the balance. Usually we use a 2500 size spinning reel but you can safely go down to a 2000 if you want and a 2000 may be a better "fit" with your rod. When considering any reel please note the rod's specifications as to line and bait size and match those stats to your spinning or baitcaster reel. Those stats on the rod are for maximum performance and they should be your guide when selecting a reel and also rigging to go fishing. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted July 25, 2010 Super User Posted July 25, 2010 A 1000 SIZE REEL WOULD BE AN IDEAL FIT FOR THAT ROD. By the way , welcome to the forum. Quote
HopelesslyAddicted Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Gander Mountain has Pflueger Supremes for 65 dollars with free shipping. IMO its a much better value than any Shimano at that particular price point. If you want to spend more than that then look at shimanos, daiwas and abu garcias in your range. Quote
northern basser Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 A 1000 SIZE REEL WOULD BE AN IDEAL FIT FOR THAT ROD.By the way , welcome to the forum. x2. I think a 2500 is a little big for that rod & the 500's usually have a slower gear ratio. Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Any 1000 size reel would be fine but couldn't recommend the Sahara from my experience with it. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted July 25, 2010 Super User Posted July 25, 2010 For a budget reel, I'd recommend a Pfleuger President size 20 or 25. Quote
Tom Kistler Posted July 28, 2010 Author Posted July 28, 2010 Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to start looking for some good deals from your recommendations. Quote
