I am looking to buy a spinning reel and never bought one by itself. I am looking to fish for small mouth mostly. What is the best reel under $70?

Thanks

You can probably find a Stradic on ebay for around that price if you search enough. A Sahara 2500 is right in the 70-80 dollar price point brand new. Great little spinning reel. I've got one that I abuse a lot and it just keeps on working.

I would go with Shimano Sahara.  It's like a tank, mine does not sieze up even if I use it in saltwater. Minimal maintenance and it keeps on going smooth.  It's a lot better than the Daiwa Tierra, Tierra seems to need a little more maintenance than the Sahara.

I have a couple of Pflueger Presidents that I have been well satisfied with. They are worth a look.

Sometimes you don't need to spend a lot of $$ to get a decent reel.

For the past 10 years i been using these spinning reels with no problems so far.

Finor (they manufacture those large gold saltwater reels)

Okuma (10 ball bearings)

Viva (I don't see much of these but there great reels)

Quantum (even with 3 ball bearings i've seen these hold up too.)

Its all about the quality and how many ball bearings it has too.

I would also checkout BPS clearance section,  Cabelas bargain basement, dicks  and walmart for clearances too.  You can get some great deals on good reels.

Right now Gander Mountain is selling Pflueger Supremes for 65$ and free shipping. That is the best deal you'll get right now. I have owned two of them for 2.5 years and it will serve you well.

that is a great deal
