The title says it all. for a 12 yr old who only gets $10 a week for the money which company should I invest in? My friend says Abu Garcia cause they will sponsor you EZier and the Citica sucks and the Curado is ok in the long run.

It would be tough for someone as young as you to get sponsored by any of the big reel companies, so I wouldn't let that influence your decision. Either a Citica or a Revo S would be a great choice. Most people who actually own a Citica would say that it's a good reel, and the same could be said for the Revo S. It all comes down to which feels better to you.

From my experience, Shimano makes a better quality product. Plus you can't beat the warranty. Abu Garcia is finally starting to put out some newer, better quality rods. The Revo series of reels have always been regarded as a very solid reel.  Well priced and very easy to use.  So who knows what they may come out with soon.

Thats gotta be the first time I've heard somebody say the Citica "sucks" though. I don't use one, but I've heard nothing but good things about them.

x2.

i love my citica so much , i bought two. ive NEVER had any issues with either of mine.

with that money , i would shop around on ebay and pick up a used citica D if i were set on a baitcaster. otherwise , i would look into a spinning rig.

Love my Citica 200e, compared to my Revo S I prefer the Citica easily. I also have a Citica 200d, works great my only complaints are the size and weight of it.

Well the point of sponsors at my age is to save money by getting discounts. I know 3 or 4 ppl that are sponsored and they are like 13. And I think I want to go with Abu Garcia cause I can get them wholesale and get there stuff really cheap like the Premier I can get for $180 brand new. But what about rods, if I were to stick with one company should I go with Abu? or someone else

I would go with Shimano. They have quality product backed by  quality customer service.

I think it's great that you're focused on your future. I hope the sponsorships come through for you, and that you're able to make a go of it. I wish I'd had that much direction when I was 12!

I own several Shimano's, including Curado 200E7, Core 50mg7 and Calais DC. I also own some Abu, Revo S (last years model, not good) and Premier (this years model). Personally, I'd go Abu for the reels. The Premier's are just great, great reels, especially for the price. I'd put them ahead of my core for performance, smoothness, drag power and versatility. They do weigh slightly more, but I don't notice the difference. The Curado's are good reels for the money, but nothing special. Not overly smooth, but they do get the job done.

I've never used Abu rods, and only one Shimano rod. So can't really compare those for you. Maybe try to get a sponsorship from Loomis, too?  :-?

cant your father, who wholesales fishing gear, tell you the ins and outs of the gear he sells?

also, again, a popularity contest is never a good way to buy gear.
