zelmo Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Are the characteristics and actions of the St. Croix Legend Elite and Extreme blanks comparable to the Loomis GLX BCR blanks in similar powers? Quote
Carrington Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 im not sure about st croix but a g loomis medium is more like a medium light in other companies rods. so loomis' rods are not the same as others in that respect, hope that helped with your question a little bit. Quote

Or if G. Loomis is the standard, St. Croix is a bit heavier: Loomis Medium Power is Medium Power; St. Croix Medium is actually Medium Heavy. 8-) Quote
bigfruits Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 im not sure if this is the case with the rods you are looking at but by my st. croix legend elite and avid rods tend to have a softer tip (not faster) than my bcr rods of similar lure weight range. Quote

I would have to agree with this statement. I own a few different brands of rods, mostly Loomis, and the Loomis rods, compared to others have a lighter action of the same ratings of other rods. Heavy action Loomis = Med heavy compared to others and so forth. This statement is based on MBR GL3 & IMX for those are the only Loomis models I own. Quote
Hot n Tot Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 I use St. Croix and G. Loomis rods exclusively. My experience is that Medium power St. Croix rods are similar in power to the G. Loomis med. hvy. For instance, a 6'-6" St. Croix Legend Elite is close in power to the med. hvy. Loomis MBR783. But Loomis rods seem to have somewhat faster tapers, in other words a fast action St. Croix doesn't seem quite as fast as the Loomis fast. Quote
Pinnacle1 Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Guys, I'm a little biased of course, but suggest you check out Pinnacle's new-for-2011 "Tournament Class" Perfecta Rods, just unveiled at this year's ICAST trade show in Las Vegas. These high modulus graphite rods feature proprietary Double Helical Contruction. They're light as a feather and hyper-sensitive, yet super strong. We worked with top BASS Elite Series pros like Paul Elias and Dave Wolak to get the actions, tapers and lengths just right for the intended applications - 15 different application-specific rods in all. Best part is, these rods are about half the price of top-of-the-line G. Loomis and St. Croix models. Tackletour.com just did a complete review on our new Tournament Class Perfecta rods, so you can check that out if you want to see images, specs, and their expert opinions on the quality and performance (www.Tackletour.com). These rods should be available online at tackle e-tailers like ***.com by late fall 2010. Check 'em out when you have a chance. Good Fishing! Pinnacle1 Quote

Yup. My BCR 852 GLX is definitely faster than my LEC68MXF. The BCR's are crisper as well, at least in my hands. Quote
