gotarheelz14 Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 I have the newest Revo Premier. The one that has a centrifugal break and the two magnetic brakes. Whenever I take a cast the piece at the very front of the reel, that moves side to side as it spools the line, does not move at all. My previous Abu Garcia rods all moved as the cast went along. This one does not. Is thits little line guide supposed to move side to side or stay still? Thanks, Carlos Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 21, 2010 Super User Posted July 21, 2010 Nope, levelwind is not engaged when in freespool. Your reel works fine. Quote
baluga Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Nope, levelwind is not engaged when in freespool. Your reel works fine. What he said. It cast better that way, I have a revo inshore and the levelwind does not engaged on free spool. Quote

It cast better that way, I have a revo inshore and the levelwind does not engaged on free spool. It isn't that it casts better, its that the spool is so narrow, it isn't necessary. Take a Calcutta 300 and cast that, and you'll see that the levelwind moving back forth with line peeling off the spool actually adds distance, and reduces backlashes. I recently worked on a classic Abu 2500c, and I can tell you with confidence, it casts better with the levelwind moving. Quote
Nick94 Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 your reel is fine! i went through the same thing when i first started out on baitcasters. My first one was an older model Abu Garcia and the levelwind would run when casting, and boy did it cast. Soon, i got a newer model, and i noticed that it didn't move. i got so worried lol Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted July 21, 2010 Super User Posted July 21, 2010 The energy required to start a spool with a non-disengaging level wind is a bit higher. On a big reel that is off-set by the energy saved as the line comes straight off the reel when casting, rather than creating friction as it goes through the level wind guide at an angle. On smaller reels the spool is not connected to any gearing during casting, making lighter baits easier to use. Carlos I haven't had a chance to use that reel, but I hear good things about it. 8-) Enjoy. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 21, 2010 Super User Posted July 21, 2010 I have casted round baitcasters that will out cast anything you have. It doesn't have anything to do with low pro or round that makes a better casting reel. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted July 21, 2010 Super User Posted July 21, 2010 Hmmnn..I guess I better check my old Abu C4 again..maybe it would cast better than my revo inshore. But I guess we can't really compare a low baitcaster with a round baitcaster because the low profile always cast better than the round baitcaster. I don't seem to remember the C4 out casting the revo inshore when throwing a 3" swimbait on a 1/4oz leadhead. Even in shimano reels, the round bait caster cannot out cast its low profile sibling. Bull. You've proven time and time again that you don't really know what you're talking about. I have cast round bait casters that will out cast anything you have. It doesn't have anything to do with low pro or round that makes a better casting reel. Quote
baluga Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 I have cast round bait casters that will out cast anything you have I'm sure you got a bait caster than can out cast anything that I have... The original poster ask if there is something wrong with his new Revo Premier and we all agree that there is nothing wrong with it. Everybody is happy and we all go on with our happy life. Have a nice day bro! Quote

It has nothing to do with better casting abilities, or the fact that it is a LP reel or not. Garcia has played in the past with LP reels with move-able line carriages, and even line carriages that would separate and have no line carriage at all in the way. It is all just part of the history of LP reels for the maker of some of the best round reels fishing today... Quote
