hello everyone, my name is conor and im new here. im 14 but consider my self an avid angler for my age. i live in maryland and fish the local ponds and swamps with success, but i also fish smith mountain lake in virginia when i have the time on my pelican 10e. i fish with two baitcaster set ups (the rods are a 7' MH action and a 6' 6" MH action) mainly, and a quantum billdance series spinning reel on a 6' 6" medium action olllld old old rod. They are low priced combos, and the quality shows through the price. I am looking into getting new and better gear and i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for rods and reels. i am on a low budget but i want to get different set ups for different situations and good quality gear.

so far, i have taken an intrest in skeet reese's line of casting and spinning rods, as well as abu garcia's vendetta rods. for reels, i am looking at the quantum accurist.

thanks so much for any comments or suggestions and i look forward to becoming an active member in these forums  ;)

For the rods, I would definitely check out the Vendettas. I have one that I beat the crap out of and it's still alive and kicking. For the money, amazing rod.

For  the reel, check out the Shimano Citicas. They are IMO the best reel for $120. You could probably get one on here for+/- $80.

the skeet reese rods have the back bone of a wet noodle, they are so whippy, i hate them, i would look into the lamiglas excel, its a little more than the skeets but they are so much better

Take a look also at the Falcon Lowriders. I LOVE them for the money and theyre very nicely balanced. They run about $130 too!

You do realize that it was likely the crankbait rod you handled?  Crankbait rods are designed that way.

I have fished with the 8' Flippin' Stick and trust me, "wet noodle" is not the description I would give.

alright! i think i narrowed it down to the vendetta spinning and trigger rods.

and then pair them up with the browning Citori

BPS Pro Qualifier

and the Quantum Kinetic PTi-B

The Quantum Kinetic PTi-B is a great reel. Nice and smooth and lightweight with a nice drag system. I have one myself and no problems with it at all.
