They are pretty close in quality but I think the Citica is SLIGHTLY better from what I hear. I haven't used either. I do have a BPS Pro Qualifier and it is awesome.

Best for the money?  Pro Qualifier.  Are there better reels?  Sure.  For 100 bucks though, it's extremely hard to beat.

My fishing buddy uses citaca's alot and really likes them.

Those BPS reels look like good value untill it's time for repairs.

Avid it is good to hear from you. 8-)

There are a couple of guys on the board that do BPS reel repair. Parts are readily available I'm told, although to this point all I've not needed anything but routine service. While BPS sells many reels that I would not buy, the Pro Qualifier an excellent value IMHO.

BPS Carbonlite ! Its a great value for 120 (100 on sale). It performs like a PQ but only weighs like 6.7 ounces! I own one so i can personally vouch for it!

And BPS has their own repair department. For the latest models of the PQ, Johnny Morris, Rick Clunn, Carbonlite, and the other BPS higher-end reels, I don't think longevity or availability of repair parts will be a problem for a long time.

Too bad the latest model PQ has gotten so popular - I got 1 2009/2010 model PQ on eBay for $30, another for $40. Can't get those prices anymore!! Think of it this way - I bought EVERY spare part on the PQ reel for $30 since I have that reel as a spare right now. Call Shimano and get a price on every spare part for a Citica... ;D

I agree the PQ is the best $100 reel out there. The Johnny Morris is really not much better than the PQ and it even reviews a little worse than the PQ. The Citica is fantastic and if you have $120, I would buy it from what I have heard.

Just took my new Citica out for the first time today. Absolutely loved it. I'm still learning with the BC's and it almost startled me how far that puppy launched out there on the first cast. My new favorite reel.

Citica is the best reel in it's class and I trust Shimano to last!

Another Citica fan here.  Two 200D's, three 100DSV's and three 200E's.  Easy to maintain, solidly built and high performers.
