Berkley trans optic is a mono that is low vis to fish high vis to us. Has and one used it? Like, don't like, any feedback would be helpful. I am thinking of putting 25lb test on my pitchin reel and 17 on my worm / jig reel.

I dont think that transoptic is a fluo mono mix. Its just straight mono. Thats what the berkley rep told me at a new store opening in montreal not too long ago. Here is the description off of Berkley:

Introducing NEW Trilene® TransOpticTM. The first and only nylon monofilament fishing line to physically change color! It's the line-watchers line. YOU SEE THE LINE. FISH DON'T!

-Proprietary transition technology activated by UV light.

-Changes from clear to gold in sunlight. Hi-Vis above, clear below!

-Excellent shock strength holds strong under hard hooksets

-Manageable outstanding for a wide variety of baits and techniques

-Super strong fish with confidence and control

-Abrasion resistant tough and dependable

I'm pretty skeptical when manufacturers come out with something new an unique as far as line goes (I haven't been able to resist new reels, rods, and lures tho). You can't go wrong with plain 'ole mono, flouro, copoly, and braid - unless you can't resist new products - I'd stay away to see if they have it next year.

Last year, I bought Berkley's "new" Tracer braid after talking to a rep and believing the colors won't fade like other brands. That was their BIG PITCH as the differentiator. After two outings, the black started to fade and my line color was getting close to lime-green. This year, I've seen most retailers liquidating their Tracer braid stock.

That process is not new. The line is just an adaptation of the fluorocarbon line Vanish Transition. The hype is the same as the Vanish. Supposedly when the line stops doing the color change, it should be replaced.

I fell for that hype when it was first marketed and found out it was no better than regular Vanish (junk).

Vanish is JUNK!

If your a line watcher and the MONO is abrasion resistant I can't think of a reason not to try it. Some people are just Berkley haters, and if they hear something from their aunts brother twice removed the its Fact.

Anyone else use the Transoptic line with good results. I picked up a trila spool from a promo in a magazine. I believe its 14#. I spooled it on my Shimano Bantam . Wondering if this would be good line to throw soft stickbaits(Senkos...) with.

Is 14# too heavy a line to throw soft stickbaits with?

Would I get better action with a lighter line?

Sorry for the Hijack

I just spooled some 8lb on a spinning reel, but my wife was the one using it. The little I watched it I could see it ok. I wouldn't go replace my line with it, but when it's time I'd say it's worth trying.

my friend and brother use it and both like it, i personally dont use it but my friend said it was tougher than trilene xt

I tried it when it first came out and promptly removed it.

Terrible memory and after fishing braid / fluro the sensitivity wasn't there.

I use Suffix Elite for my cranking stick and that seems to perform like I would expect.

I use braid and fluro for the applications you mentioned though.

I've used it quite a bit and it seems just like Trilene XL to me, just gold colored.  Hasn't really lived up to the hype, but I haven't had any real problems with it.

I tried this line today and all it did was make knots that would bunch up and make these loop time knot thing.Worst line ever.I put kvd line and lure conditioner before I used maybe that was the reason I dont know.It really does suck.I think I am going to strip it off and put stren fluro on instead. This line has more memory than fluorocarbon line.I didnt think that was possible.I was using spinning reel.Sedona FB 2500.It may work on baitcasting but certainly didnt work on spinning.
