OHIO Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Anyone ever had trouble with braided line just spinning around the spool when you are reeling in. It just happened to me for the first time. I was reeling in, but the line was moving around the spool as a whole. It seemed like it was really loose around the spool. I think it is because I left my reel in my car, which gets up to 100 degrees inside because I park in the sun. Does anyone know if it was the heat that had an affect on the line?? Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 11, 2010 Super User Posted July 11, 2010 Not the heat, I leave mine in my garage year round, in Florida my garage temp is over 100 much of the year. I think your line is not spooled properly. I have never had line slipping like you mentioned, I use tape, electrical or masking, tie or just tape, personal choice, spool it tight and you should have no problem. Quote
Super User David P Posted July 11, 2010 Super User Posted July 11, 2010 Always need to spool on a few layers of mono or fluoro before putting on braid. Some guys like electrical tape too, I like both just to be safe. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted July 11, 2010 Super User Posted July 11, 2010 Your braid is slipping on the reel , do as David P said and you will eliminate the problem. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted July 11, 2010 Super User Posted July 11, 2010 Definitely sounds like you spooled it wrong. Either use some mono backing on the spool, or use some arbor tape. A lot of the newer reels are coming braid ready with small rubber strips already on the spool. Do either of those and you'll solve the problem. Quote
OHIO Posted July 11, 2010 Author Posted July 11, 2010 Yeah I forgot that I didn't do that for some reason Quote

crw Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 I always spool with mono backing. I use 75-80 yards of Power Pro/Suffix tied to the mono with a double uni knot. Save money in the long/short run. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 13, 2010 Super User Posted July 13, 2010 I never use backing, tape and spool with braid all the way, freshwater reels don't have that much line capacity anyway. When I need line I just add what I need with new braid, I use this practice in all fishing environments. Quote
