There is no best braid, all a matter of preference. I mostly use use PP 10-15- or 20#, few windknots, no digging in problem and casts just fine. I target "other species " fish which will test your line.

if i'm not mistaken you use spinning reels.braid does not dig on spinning reels.it only happens with casting reels.it has to do with how the line lays.

Could someone please tell me why power pro sucks? That's all I hear now is "power pro is outdated garbage " I really don't get it, because it works fine for me. I'm fishing it side by side with suffix and I don't really functionally see that much of a difference.

What am I missing out on? How much better does it get? And why?

never said power pro sucks.i said it's outdated.it's a 4 strand braid where as fireline braid is 6 strand up to 20 lb and 8 strand from 30 on up.i used to use ipower pro all the time.fireline braid and diawa's samurai are much better braids.they are rounder and far smoother and the quality control of the braid texture is much superior.rounder smoother lines dig less on a baitcaster and generally handle better.i've also over the years heard complaints of power pro snapping during a cast where as i have never heard this with other braids.i tend to think the line was dug into the spool and the person cast a lure really hard and the lines just snapped.i have never had this happen to me so i can't really confirm it.

I've had real good luck with the samuri in the 55lb test. if..it was digging allot I'd be the first to say so, and try something else.. :)

Dodgeguy,

Alright that sounds reasonable that a far more expensive braid like samurai would perform better. I have been using 10 lb power pro and some 20 lb suffix braid on my spinning rigs for two years(with leaders). Both perform fine but I like the power pro a little better performance wise. The 10 lb power pro has never even come close to breaking let alone the 20 lb suffix.

I don't understand all this talk about 8 strands vs X amount of strands, what does it matter if the line never breaks? Maybe its a baitcasting thing? More strands = rounder line, which I can see being an advantage for baitcasting, is that it?

now you got it.but it is possible to have 8 strands and not have a round line.more strands is generally a smoother line.

Addicted, the higher thread count braids are smoother and softer textured. The Samurai braid is a smaller diameter per pound test than other superlines. Example: most 30# superlines have a mono equivelent diameter of 8# test, the Samurai is 6# mono equivelent diameter.

I'm sorry, but there's absolutely no competition, Daiwa Samurai is hands down the best. Now if we're talking best braid on a budget, there's several other braids that are cheaper, and still decent, but nothing compares to Samurai.

I've tried, Powe Pro, Suffix, Spiderwire (Stealth and Ultracast), HI SEAS Grand Slam, P-Line, Fireline, Invisibraid, TUF-Line, and I'm sure there's others that I'm missing. Samurai is hands down the winner.

Braid Wars?

TJHfishin - sounds like you bought 2 braids, so try them out and see if you can tell a difference between them.  If so, try others whenever you can.  Only you will be able to say what's the best braid for you as it's purely preference.
