Super User Bankbeater Posted July 6, 2010 Super User Posted July 6, 2010 Has anyone ever used one of these from BPS? Two people have told me that they are great, but the on line reviews are mixed. Quote
Senkoman12 Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 my friend has 4 of them, the jig and worm, spinnerbait/ worm, crankin, and drop shot/split shot and loves them, while me on the other hand hate them, i dont like the feel or actions of them, i suggest you go and pick one up to see how it feels Quote
fathom Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 have only used the spinnerbait/worm rod. hated it for spinnerbaits/worms but, felt it would make a decent crankbait rod. Quote
TBendBassin Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 i dont care for them... my brother got one for the hell of it and it only took one trip and the following monday he brought it back. to me its a big marketing setup, take a cheap rod paint it yellow, put an elite anglers name on it and slap a $89.99 price tag on it and its going to sell.. bandsr4me20 Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Skeet reese uses those rods right? Must work for him. Quote
Big Tom Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 There are two things that kill this rod for me: 1. They are way too noodle-like for my tastes. That dude sure likes limber rods. I am on the other side of the spectrum. 2. Too dang flashy for me. Around this price point, the Lamiglas Excel, Falcon Bucco, and Abu Garcia Vendetta feel like better overall rods. That just my opinion from handling each of them in-store. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted July 7, 2010 Super User Posted July 7, 2010 The Spinnerbait/Worm rod is a fine Bandit 200/300 rod. Does pretty darn well with a 3/8-1/2 oz. spinnerbait as well. If I can find a 7'6 locally, I'm going to grab one. Quote
jdw174 Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 I use the spinnerbait/worm model for cranking lipless cranks and it's great. Also works well with most other cranks. I think it would make a good spinnerbait rod, but I wouldn't use it for worming at all. Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted July 7, 2010 Super User Posted July 7, 2010 i wish posters would go into detail when they trash a rod. i dont know a lot about rods so it helps me quite a bit when a poster who knows about rods in general rates them poorly. Quote

fathom Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 i wish posters would go into detail when they trash a rod. i dont know a lot about rods so it helps me quite a bit when a poster who knows about rods in general rates them poorly. we all do things at different speeds...in my case, that shouldn't be misconstrued as trashing. personally, like a mh/xf for plastics, a mh/f for blades and a mh/m for open water cranks...in my hands, the spinnerbait/worm rod is too moderate in action for plastics and blades. for cranks, however, the s/w rod fishes much like a cbr845 (mhm) and, in that and as i have stated, the rod would work well. fwiw, don't like the 845 for plastics and blades either...as i said, we all do things at different speeds. ymmv. b.Lee Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 I only own one of his rods, the froggin/senko rod. But to me it says a lot when a Pro uses his own product religiously and wins tournaments and leads the AOY race. Just shows you don't need 300-400 dollars rods to cash in a check. Quote
Jake. Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 But to me it says a lot when a Pro uses his own product religiously and wins tournaments and leads the AOY race. I would be willing to bet that the rods Skeet uses are not the same rods that are sold to the public. Several pros fish rods that are wrapped to look like their signature series rods, but are different. Quote

I am not certain, but Skeet is from my home town and I have met him several times and he has spoken at my club meetings, I kind of doubt it. But you never know. But if he does nothing against him, if he uses the rods he advertises, just more power to him Quote
La-12345 Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Has anyone ever used one of these from BPS? Two people have told me that they are great, but the on line reviews are mixed. I have one.. Really liked the rod until it broke. They have a limited lifetime warranty which is nice, but it cost $60 bucks in shipping cost to get a new $90 rod. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 I don't know squat about rod quality, I only know what feels comfortable for me, but after handling Skeet's rod and the BPS Carbonlite in the store, I settled on the Carbonlite 7' MH for worming. It just felt so light. I have it rigged with a Citica 200E and it is very comfortable to fish with all day. The old wrist does not hurt at all. Skeet's rods may be the ticket for others. Quote

My local dealer said as long as I have the original sales receipt just bring it back and he'll replace it on the spot. Quote
SGT Rico Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 I love these rods, I have the Senko/toad, spinnerbait/Worm, and topwater/Jerkbait. These are great rods for the money, but everyone has their opinion. I will continue to buy them as long as they make them. I've had mine for a couple of months now and only have great things to say about them. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted July 11, 2010 Super User Posted July 11, 2010 Theys rods were made with treble hooks in mind. Quote
417Bass Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Bought two of them this morning. The owner of the local tackle shop recomended them and i know he has had a hard time keeping them in stock. I liked the feel of the rod, but then again i havent tested it on the water. They seem quality built, the reel seated well and didnt wiggle around. If these work out well i may be in the market for the crankbait rod. Quote
