I just got a Loomis BCR803 GLX and now I'm looking for a new reel to pair with it.

My price range is approximately $150 - $250. I've researched the Revo line, the Curado, and Chronarch. I wouldn't mind picking up a Core if I could find a good deal on ebay, but I really don't want to spend over $250.

I plan on using this combo for soft plastics, mainly t-rigs and jigs. Also, I'm a lefty so that takes away some options.

I would really appreciate your opinions on these reels and any other reels I should consider.

Thanks in advance!

I was looking to get a new real too & had thought about waiting until after I-cast. I contacted Bantam-1 & asked about the availability of the new reels after the show. He told me 1 to 2 months depending on the store orders. I did not want to wait that long so I picked up a NIB Chronarch 101 D7 for less than $250 shipped. Look on e-bay. :)

The D7 can be found in your price range. You can also find a Core 51 for about ~$50 more if you are willing to pay the extra money. To me, the Core fits much better in my hand and the weight difference is significant, although I don't care too much about that.

Thanks for the responses guys! I saw there were some Chronarchs on ebay for about $250 and some Cores for about $50 more. But after buying this rod I would rather opt for the cheaper Chronarch.

Pgersumky, have you fished a chronarch? If so, how do you think it compares to the revo premier? I saw some 2010 premiers going for < $200 on ebay and I was really tempted. If I see another one I think I'm gonna have to get it.

Mo Bass, I received a lot of feed back on the Chronarch D7 before I went for it. In fact I was leaning toward a Scorpion XT. I think this reel is going to do what we want it for. Good luck with it. :)

bcr803 glx + mg reel =

in my hands, the 803 glx is one rod that simply shines with a good mg reel...personally, would shop around for a chronarch 51mg...they can easily be found in your price range.

That rod  really  deserves a nice reel. I use a Steez with mine and it's a real joy to fish with. A Zillion would be nice, but it is heavier than a Steez.

Unfortunately, the Steez is simply out of my price range at this time. Right now I'm leaning toward the Chronarch but I'm going to wait a week or two and see if I can find a 51mg at a good price.

Thanks again for all the responses.

Why is that funny? It is a fine reel in the price range asked about. If you have a suggestion, make it; if not...

x2 !

I looked at the Patriarch XT and it has great specs. I ended up with a BPS Carbonlite instead but that's a story for another thread... ;D

The "Best Value" in the Shimano line-up is the Curado 200E7.

I have the BCR803 GLX with a Shimano Core 50Mg.  I know you don't want to spend that extra $50, but I will tell you that it is worth every penny.  That combo is unreal.  It balances perfectly and fits really nice in ones hand.  Though, I'm sure the Chronarch would be nice as well.

Some people feel that if it doesn't say Shimano or Daiwa (or possibly Revo) on the reel then it couldn't possibly be any good. Not a mind reader so I don't know why he is laughing. Just putting out one possible explanation. :)

I understand that many recommend their brand/rod/reel because they believe it is a better long term value than the others, and they want help people make the right decision when it comes to spending their hard earned money. I have great respect for that. What I have no respect for are those who condescendingly judge all other brands/rods/reels as inferior. Tell me why I should buy, or why I shouldn't if you have personal experience, that's what this board is all about. I will weigh your input with all the rest. Don't tell me mine is bad and yours is good, it serves no useful purpose.

Daiwa & Shimano are the only reels any fairly serious fisherman should be looking at. Comparing a Pflueger to those 2 companies is just silly.

Great specs doesn't make it a good reel.  By the way, BPS reels are even worse than a Pflueger.
