Nibbles Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 I'm getting some spinning reels for my younger siblings, and was thinking about what kind of rods I should get them. Mind you, they're still beginners so I'm not looking for finesse rods that let you feel everything or anything fancy like that. I'm looking for a cheap but solid spinning rod that won't snap in half the minute you attempt to pull in a 8-10# fish. What suggestions do you guys have? Quote
Super User slonezp Posted July 11, 2010 Super User Posted July 11, 2010 8-10lb fish for beginners? I need to move. Ugly Sticks won't break and won't break the bank. Quote
Nibbles Posted July 11, 2010 Author Posted July 11, 2010 I forgot to mention - they're not only fishing for bass, but carp as well. I wouldn't really be very worried about rods breaking if they were only for bassing. ;D Carp, on the other hand... a 5# carp will fight like a 10# flathead at times. One time I caught one on a crawler and it pulled so hard I nearly tripped. I thought I had caught some monster, only to pull out an 8# torpedo shaped dinky common carp. Quote
RussBert Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 I'd be at the local Wal-Mart getting a couple Ugly Stiks Quote
Stasher1 Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 I picked up a pair of Abu Garcia Conolon Premier spinning rods for my two oldest boys about this time last year, and was rather impressed. They're fairly light and much more sensitive than I had expected. I found them in the clearance section of my local Walmart for a little over $25 a piece. Quote
