Super User Gone_Phishin Posted June 24, 2010 Super User Posted June 24, 2010 I've been thinking about taking the plunge on this stick. It's primary application would be casting 1/4oz jigs, and smallie/sweet beaver trailers, in mostly open water. Anyone pull the trigger on this stick? Quote
opie Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I found mine to be uncomfortable after a few hours fishing. It is just a little tip heavy, and combined with the handle, which feels smaller to me compared to my loomis or dobyns cork handles, I get "the claw" much faster when using the cumulus. I started with a core on it, and have recently changed to a steez reel, which has a larger profile and seems to help some. I'm sure it depends on how you grip and the size of your hands, but I would definitely put a reel on one at the store and check it out before you buy. On the other hand, it is as sensitive as my glx mbr842 and it has more power than you'd expect from holding it in the store. Quote
Bronzefly Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I'll agree that it's a little tip heavy, but I don't find it to be uncomfortable at all with a Core 51MG7. Actually I enjoy the rod and your application will work fantastic with this stick. It is super light and very sensitive, and does have surprising power with a fish on. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted June 24, 2010 Super User Posted June 24, 2010 Any particular reason you would choose a MH rod to throw 1/4 oz baits? I realize that 1/4 is within the rating, just curious I guess. Quote

I figured I'd give a MHXF Shimano a shot. Thanks for the info guys. 8-) Quote

Super User Gone_Phishin Posted July 10, 2010 Author Super User Posted July 10, 2010 Any update? Yup! I've been out of town, and my new Cumulus made the trip. It's been awhile since I was blown away by a new rod, since the first time I fished a BCR GLX to be exact, and I am happy to say I recently experienced that feeling with my Cumulus. I paired the 7'1"MHXF with a Core 51, spooled it with 10lb Stren fluoro, and tied on a 1/4 Pepper jig/smallie beaver combo...and I'm still grinning. Though nowhere near as fast as a BCR, I found this rod to be as sensitive as a GLX. Opie already posted he felt this, and I definitely concur. Shimano hit a homer with this stick, and I definitely see at least one more Cumulus in my future. If anyone is on the fence with these sticks, screw the new sticks debuting at ICAST, and pick one up. 8-) Quote
CWilliams Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Mine showed up the other day. Matched with a Core50. Only fished a couple of hours with it, but I am very impressed so far. I have a 6 5 spinning rod matched with a CI4. I liked it so much I had to try the casting version. Hoping to see some new additions during ICast. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted July 10, 2010 Author Super User Posted July 10, 2010 Glad you like it. 8-) I hope they add a few new models as well. A heavier stick for mop jigs would be nice. I have my eye on the 6'10" ML stick for light bass and 'eye duties. Quote
ghost_207 Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 I hope they will add micro guides to the line up. ;D Quote
