The title pretty well sums it up, but when we're talking about 5 yds difference in line capacity between the two is there really any reason to go with the 100?

50MG gear ratio 7.1:1

100MG gear ratio 6.2:1

More than enough for me to select the 100MG :D

Not a fan of the 7:1's ? I'm not really sure how I managed to overlook a pretty obvious distinction between the two, but gear ratio aside, does the reduced capacity of the 50mg factor in the decision making at all?

I have both and prefer the feel (size) of the 50MG7.

p.s. If anyone would like to swap a 50 for my 100,

let me know. My reel is better than 10/10 both

cosmetically and mechanically. It was professionally

serviced this spring, "just because", but it is basically

brand new!

For that price I could buy a complete setup of high quality rod & reel  :D

I do not believe gear ratios of 7.0+ are necessary; I can turn the handle on my Calcutta's & Cardiff's 1 more time.

To answer your question of "does the reduced capacity of the 50mg factor in the decision making at all?"

The answer would be no, for bass fishing line capacity never come into play

have owned both and prefer the 50.

the 100 is a good reel, it may well be just a bit stouter than the 50...that said, in my hands, it was never quite as smooth as the 50...especially under load.

so, it had to find another home.

Well, it looks like the 50mg is the way to go. I have relatively small hands anyway, so the ergonomics of the 50mg appealed to me immediately.  I really couldn't imagine a time where I would have regretted going with the 50, but better to ask those questions now.

If you are going to use it for top water lure, like the spook,  I'd go with the discountinued Chronarch 50mg.  I got the Core 100MG and it just don't feel right when doing a walk the dog   Some tackle shops still sells them on discounted price.  I paired the Chronarch 50mg w/ phenix mbx 6'6 heavy, fast action and it's a sweet combo, I can do the walk the dog for half day w/o any fatigue in my wrist.  I tried it with the core and somehow it does not feel comfortable, I guess it because the core has elongated profile of the core and the rounded profile of the chronarch 50mg that I can palm better.   JMHO

btw, somehow the Chornarch feels smoother in casting and retrieving.

I have the chronarch and core 50mg.  The chronarch is definately an awesome reel and is quite a bit cheaper than the core.  Bang for buck I might lean towards the chronarch.  However,  the core is incredible.  I picked one up this spring because of all the good reviews I was reading on this site.  All the hype it has recieved isn't B.S.  It's the real deal!

You guys keep this up, and you're going to convince me to save up for a Core.

I don't know what's worse... the bait monkey, or you guys and your fancy equipment.  :D
