tnbassfisher Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 I plan to try and take advantage of St. Croix's trade up program each year. So, I get at least 2-3 new rods each season. My reels are good, but I couldn't pass up a deal on the Skeet Reese Revo from TW right before Father's day!Once I'm on all top-end stuff, I guess I'll have to figure it out as I go. Whets 8-) What is the trade up program? Apparently this is something that I have missed, but am rethinking my priorities.Hahahahaha Quote
SGT Rico Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 Too often! me too Iam guilty of this also!!!!! Quote
Dave P Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 This year (thus far!!!) one combo, two rods, two reels. Wish list, is one more of each! Quote

KC Bass Fanatic Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Usually not until I really NEED a replacement due to wear. I'd say every year or two I'm putting a new one in the rotation. Quote

You get credit for your rod towards the purchase of the new one. It's very cool. If you are anywhere close to the factory, I suggest just stopping in and taking care of the upgrade. I'm about 5 hours away and plan to drive up every spring before bass season opens here in Southern Wisconsin. Enjoy... Whets 8-) Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted June 30, 2010 Super User Posted June 30, 2010 This year I have bought 5 rods and 3 or 4 reels. It's getting about time to sell some stuff for newer gear Quote
lk ozark Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 2 reels and 7 rods. I didn't know I needed them until I found this site. THANKS. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted July 2, 2010 Super User Posted July 2, 2010 I replace my spinning combos at least once a year, sometimes more. As far as baitcasters the I buy rods under $100 and replace them as needed. I have my 2 ABU reels repaired as needed, but I did purchase 3 new reels this year 2 that are junk and will be selling at the garage sale and 1 ABU Revo Toro which I ordered from Cabelas and will be picking up tomorrow. 15 years ago $100 would buy a really nice reel. Today...Not so much. Quote
Nibbles Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 I've only ever bought reels and rods when they needed replacing or if it's a type of reel I don't have (Started with a spincaster, then bought a baitcaster, etc.). I've currently got one spincaster, one spinner, two baitcasters, and five rods, and don't plan on getting anything else till something breaks. Quote
Red Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 I have been working on getting my 5 rod arsenal built up for about three years now. I have managed to build four custom baitcast rods paired with Revo S-L's except one has a black max, it will be a revo in two weeks though. I also have one spinning rig which is an american rodsmiths rod with an abu 801 cardinal. Once I get that last revo I wont be replacing anything until it gets broken. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 I try to limit my purchases to major holidays like, Christmas, my birthday, fathers day, George Washington's birthday, Boxer Day, 4th of July, Canada Day, Victoria Day, Administrative Professionals Day, the release date of Avatar on DVD, and so on. I can't handle frivolous impulse buying. Quote
dman Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 2-3 a year.... At least one each (spinning, baitcaster) of the latest reel and a nice rod to match Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 6, 2010 Super User Posted July 6, 2010 I own Shimano reels which eliminates any need for replacement due to wear Rods of all brands will on occasion break mostly due to operator error I have considered adding a spinning setup to my arsenal but due to stubbornness I haven't Quote

Super User Bankbeater Posted July 6, 2010 Super User Posted July 6, 2010 Right now I will get a new reel once a year. Most of my reels are 10+ years old so I am slowly getting replacements for them. Quote
