OnthePotomac Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 Received a BPS 7' MH Carbonlite rod for Father's Day and what a great rod. I have it paired with a Citica 200E and 14lb BPS Floro and it worm fishes like a dream. The rod is so light and sensitive that I did not want to put it down at the end of the day. Quote
endless Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 I know I love mine though I have the Carbonlite reel too with the same rod as yours and 12lb flouro on mine! Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted June 26, 2010 Super User Posted June 26, 2010 I have the same rod matched with a 7.1:1 PQ reel and 15# P-Line CXX. It is my choice for plastics and jigs over 3/8 oz. Works well for frogs too. Very good rod for the money IMO. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted June 26, 2010 Super User Posted June 26, 2010 Love both of mine. 6'9" MH XFast. 30lb braid with a fluoro leader. The other is the 6'9" ML spinning. 20lb braid and a fluoro leader as well. Couldn't ask for more from them. Ultra sensitive rod. The only complaint that I have is the crap hook keepers they come with. I'd cut it off if I wasn't afraid it'd void the warranty. Fantastic rod, epsecially for the price. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted June 27, 2010 Super User Posted June 27, 2010 I have the Carbonlite reel, but the but the split-grip design of the Carbonlite rod makes it a no-go for me. Too bad, lots of you guys are giving them pretty good reviews : ....The only complaint that I have is the crap hook keepers they come with. I'd cut it off if I wasn't afraid it'd void the warranty. If Carbonlite rods have the same hook-keeper design as the Extreme and Bionic Blade rods - I love that design. Wish the other rod companies would shamelessly copy it Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted June 27, 2010 Super User Posted June 27, 2010 Goose the Carbonlite is the only split grip rod I have. For pitching, and shorter one-hand casts it is fine. I don't throw frogs often, so it serves its purpose well. For most other applications a full grip, with no fore grip is my choice. The hook keeper is much like the Extremes or PQ rods. I like it. 8-) Quote

I also don't mind the hook keeper but I'm not to picky on those. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted June 27, 2010 Super User Posted June 27, 2010 I don't mind the design of the hook keeper at all. My problem with them is that they could have at least been made out of stainless steel. The darn things rust like theres no tomorrow. Quote

The darn things rust like theres no tomorrow. Now that is true!! I do have a problem with the side mounted hook keepers like the one on my spinning Browning Citori rod. My line keeps getting wrap around it. Quote
Fishing Cowgirl Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 I absolutely love my 7'MH XFast with 15 lb line and it's the only split grip I have. I can feel so much more with it and I am not missing the hooksets like before. I plan on getting another soon. I can use it all day and I don't get as "arm tired" as with the other rods I have. Quote

The darn things rust like theres no tomorrow. I completely agree with this. I like the hook keeper design, but both of mine are already rusty after just a couple months. Anyone using the 6'9" trigger rod? I was considering getting one of these for pitching 3/8 oz jigs and stuff. Quote

Super User BASSclary Posted July 2, 2010 Super User Posted July 2, 2010 have any of you had problems with the guides? ive been hearing that they arent so great. is that true? Quote

None so far but I just got it this spring. What are the problems supposed to be? I have read some people are concerned the guides will not hold up to braid. I have not heard of that actually being a problem. Quote
oteymc Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 I bought one, loved it, but I got it hung up, pulled on it and the thing shattered into about 15 pieces. I wasn't pulling on it that hard, not much harder than I would if I had a big fish on, certainly not hard enough that I thought it should break. I am sure that this is an uncommon thing, probably got the only bad one made. The good thing is that BPS took it back, never batted an eye. They are great about that. I couldn't make myself get another one, chose an extreme instead. The extreme is not nearly as nice as the Carbonlite, but is a nice rod and was on sale. BTW - first time I ever fished with it! Quote
chromedog Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 I love mine. I have two. 7' H with a Carbonlite reel and 50lb Suffix on it. Haven't used it much yet. I got it for punching and throwing frogs. I have a 6'6" mh spinning set up with a Sahara and 20lb suffix, that I use every day and I love it. I am constantly checking my guides and I have not noticed any problems with the braid Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted July 2, 2010 Super User Posted July 2, 2010 Good to know!! ;D I was thinking about getting one but some people said the guides were falling out, werent holding up to braid, etc etc. But i guess people are always saying that about guides. Quote
kikstand454 Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 yeha i was looking into these rods too... the thing you have to remember though is that no product is ever going to get a 100% approval rating and even good productions make some bad apples. ive had a shimano clarus explode on me shaking it out of a tree branch... and they are probably the best rods made for the money. thinkin imma try a carbonlite this xmas.... Yea I want to believe you bough ta bad one cause I got hung up to where I had no choice to cut the line it wasn't breaking loose. I don't intentionally try to pull my snags loose using the rods but I got caught while trolling and my rod bent like a curve L. I lost a good Xcalibur that day. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted July 2, 2010 Author Posted July 2, 2010 The line guides are PacBay titanium carbide. Very fine line guides. Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted July 3, 2010 Super User Posted July 3, 2010 IF the guides get grooved from use, it'll be the tip-top, and that is a flick-of-a-bic repair. Quote
