Fat-G Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Has anyone used the 7'3 H Cara Amistad Split Grip, or the 7'3 XH Cara Amistad (non-split grip)? I'm just wondering if the Cara T7's are also really overrated in power. Basically I'm looking for a really stout lower half, like a flippin' stick. I've heard from numerous friends the T7's are super sensitive. If I (eventually) get this rod, it will mostly be used for Rage Tailin' with 65lb Power Pro. Quote
Big Tom Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I don't have any information that will help you out but I do share your curiosity for the Cara T7 line. They seem like a quality stick and I will eventually break down and give one a try. Quote
Uncle Leo Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I do not have that rod but a Head Turner and Lizard Dragger 1. Both I would consider rated as over-powered. Both are Heavy Power but act more like a MH Power. Very sensitive rods as far as i am concerned. Quote

So do you think if I got the XH it would be closer to a true Heavy? Quote
Fat-G Posted June 25, 2010 Author Posted June 25, 2010 Actually, the rod I think I would want to get would be the 7'3 Heavy Split Grip. TW lists the full grip model as an Extra Heavy, but the Falcon website says it's a Heavy. That might actually be better, considering the absence of a foregrip. I also like splitgrips more. Who knows! bowfish12 Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 I just got this rod in, but will not be able to use it for another week. I believe this rod will do what you want it to do as far as having a pretty stiff backbone. When you talk about Falcon rods being a MH, H, etc. you really need to pay attention to the power rating they give these rods. A MH rod can have a power rating of 5 or 6. H can be 6 or 7. I have the lowrider lizard dragger as well, but it's the 7 power one. It has plenty of backbone and more. I'm pretty sure you have the 6 power, that's why it feels maybe more like a MH. I can tell you that I mainly use a 3/4 oz weight on my lizard dragger, it doesn't feel anything like a MH rod. I got the amistad special mainly to throw 3/4-1 oz jigs a long way for the whole day. The head turner rod that I have does this but it does wear me down after awhile. I'm very confident that this rod will do what I want it to do. Quote
aggiebassin Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 the falcon rods are very nice rods. some of the power and action ratings are confusing. i really think you should handle any rod before you buy it, but some of the falcons esepecially. i have a friend that has the low rider lizard dragger and it is rated as heavy power, but it is more of a moderate action designed to help throw c-rigs a long long way, but it does have alot of backbone. and i have the older cara in a 7' H and it is more of a fast/extra fast action. but overall they are nice rods Quote
CPT Scrap Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 I have a new T7. Its not the amistad, however it is the finesse jig model. Its a good stiff rod with plenty of backbone and very sensitive. One of my all time favorite sticks Quote
